The new edition of Bicycling magazine also goes in depth with Tyler Hamilton, who failed a doping test  in the 2004 Vuelta A Espana. Like Landis, Hamilton lost his appeal to the American Arbitration Association by a 2 to 1 margin, with Christopher Campbell dissenting as he did in the Landis case. Hamilton then appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports and lost there, too.

The lengthy article talks in depth about those who believe Hamilton when he says he didn’t dope, and those who are skeptical, and the reasons for their beliefs. Sidebars also delve into the psychology of belief. Written by a former college teammate of Hamilton, the story is a very human account of the Hamilton saga.

Hamilton has served his two-year suspension and is eligible to race. He participated earlier this month in USA Cycling championships in Greensboro, S.C. He is not on a team, having been suspended by Tinkoff Credit Systems (a European continental pro team) after being implicated in the Operation Puerto case in Spain, though no formal charges have been forthcoming from that. He also still is at work with the Tyler Hamilton Foundation, which promotes the healthful benefits of bike riding.
