Support Levi Leipheimer and save the Tour de France
U.S. national champion Levi Leipheimer has started an online petition in his quest to get the Amaury Sports Organization to reverse its ban of his new team, Astana, from the Tour de France and other races promoted by A.S.O.
Visit letleviride.com and “Save the 2008 Tour de France,” as it states on the Leipheimer’s petition webpage. With arguably the best team, including Leipheimer and defending winner Alberto Contador, excluded from the 2008 Tour, the winner of this year’s TdF won’t be able to say that he truly beat the best. And that’s not right. (There were 809 responses at letleviride.com when I started writing this post. There are 843 now.)
In other news, Pat McQuaid, the president the Union Cycliste Internationale, calls the A.S.O.’s ban of Astana a “monumental folly,” according to a story on cyclingnews.com.
