Another big day for American-sponsored CSC
World time trial champ Fabian Cancellara, of U.S.-sponsored CSC, won the Milan-San Remo Saturday, attacking with 3 km to go and winning the 298 km classic in 7 hours 14 minutes.
Filippo Pozzato of the Liquigas boys was second, and Philippe Gilbert of Française des Jeux joined him on the podium in third. They finished in a group 4 seconds in arrears of Cancellara.
American Will Frischkorn of Slipstream-Chipotle was one of four riders in the day’s breakaway.
“For my first Milan-San Remo, I couldn’t have imagined a cooler day,” Velonews quoted Frischkorn as saying. “Riding out front through the never-ending crowds and unreal scenery along the coast was an experience I won’t forget. … And for the PowerTap geeks out there, how does 6,600kjs sound? Ouch! Now for a quick trip home and a few days of serious recovery.”
