Big fine for Jan Ullrich
Crediting Focus Online, a German web magazine, Velonews.com reports that 1997 Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich will pay a 1 million euro fine ($1.5 million U.S.) to settle the fraud case against him in Germany for allegedly doping and duping the public, his team and sponsors.
Ullrich, often the foil in Lance Armstrong’s seven TdF titles, was implicated in the Operacion Puerto scandal. The German always has denied using performance-enhancing drugs.
Or as the search engine’s German-to-English translation stated: The public prosecutor had the Bonn investigations after the Bielefeld Rechtsprofesserin Britta Bannenberg mountain criminal complaint against Ullrich because of “deception and fraud to the detriment of the employer” had.
