Tour de Georgia lineups announced
Dave Luecking
Saint Louis Post-Dispatch

The lineups have been set and the Tour de Georgia is shaping up to be a fantastic race, a heavyweight bout for bragging rights as America’s team.

You have the remnants of Lance Armstrong’s old Discovery Channel team in the likes of Astana, with U.S. national road race champ Levi Leipheimer and 2003 Tour de Georgia winner Chris Horner and faithful lieutenant Chechu Rubiera.

You have High Road Sports, with defending Tour of Missouri winner Georgia Hincapie, Tour Down Under winner Andrei Geipel and young American John Devine.

You have Team CSC with veteran American and former Tour de France podium finisher Bobby Julich supported by Bradley McGee and American Jason McCartney.

You have up-and-coming Slipstream-Chipotle with 2005 Tour de Georgia winner Tom Danielson supported by Tour of California podium finisher Christian VandeVelde and three-time U.S. time trial champion Dave Zabriskie.

And you have happenin’ Rock Racing, with Oscar Sevilla as the G.C. contender supported by Santiago Botero, former Giro d’Italia podium finisher Tyler Hamilton, sprinter Freddie Rodriguez and Victor Hugo Pena.

The top G.C. contenders will come from the above group — geez, that’s narrowing it down, eh? Ol’ 10 Speed will ruminate for a day or two, and pick a winner before the race begins on Monday.

Tune in all next week for Tour of Georgia coverage.
