Report: Sella positive for EPO-CERA
Remember Emanuele Sella — the guy from a continental team who dominated the climbs at the Giro d’Italia?
Seems he’s tested positive for CERA, a new generation of EPO, in an out-of-competition anti-doping control, according to cyclingnews.com.
Before Ricardo Ricco of Sauner Duval-Scott tested positive for CERA at the Tour de France, there was no known test for CERA. But the World Anti-Doping Agency worked with Roche, the drug manufacturer, to develop the test for it, and nabbed Ricco at the TdF in targeted testing. Sella apparently got the same treatment.
“It was targeted control,” cyclingnews.com quoted UCI President Pat McQuaid as saying. “The control was done on the July 23 and we sent the samples to Paris for testing. … It was a highly targeted out-of-competition test. We are using a range of information to target riders.”
