Ol’ 10 Speed awoke to a nice thunderstorm early Monday at a Drury Inn in Kansas City. The heavy rain has long stopped, but it’s still drizzling and it’s expected to be a wet first stage for the Tour of Missouri.

The forecast for the K.C. area Monday is for scattered thunderstorms with highs in the mid-to upper 50s in St. Joseph for the start and in the low to mid 60s in K.C. for the finish.

On the bright side, the peloton will have a nice 15-20 mile per hour tailwind on the 90-mile ride from St. Joe.

The weather last year for the inaugural ToM was near-perfect, with only one funky weather day (for Stage 4 from Lebanon to Columbia)  and that was only an overcast sky and a headwind. So the law of averages was bound to catch up with us in the Show-Me State.

Hopefully, the riders will stay upright and perhaps the roads will dry out by late afternoon or else the finish in K.C. could be sketchy.
