Now that Lance Armstrong has announced his comeback to professional cycling in an effort to win the Tour de France for the eighth time, the time may be ripe for Spanish great Miguel Indurain to join him on the comeback trail.

The five-time TdF winner was robbed his sixth title, in 1996, by admitted EPO user Bjarne Riis, who fessed up last year to using the performance-enhancing drug en route to ending Indurain’s quest for a record sixth consecutive title.

If Armstong can come back to prove he won his seven consecutive title “fair and square” without doping, then Indurain can come back to prove he could have won more without his opponents doping.

So, Indurain has some unfinished business in the Tour de France, and what better time to come back than now with Armstrong back on the bike. Known for his calm and good-natured demeanor, Indurain was widely liked by his competitors, which would make him yin to the irascible Armstrong’s yang at the 09 Tour.
