Elite field gathers for Tour de Winghaven on Sunday

Kudos to the organizers of the Tour de Winghaven. First, they landed the event on the National Racing Calendar, which got the attention of the top domestic cycling teams. Second, they’ve lured a bunch of them to participate in the event, June 21 at the Winghaven subdivision in O’Fallon. Among the teams and riders committed to the race:

  • Kelly Benefits Strategies Pro team, with Andrew Bajadali and Jake Keogh
  • Team Hotel San Jose, including 2005 U.S. professional champion Chris Wherry.
  • Jelly Belly, including Brad Huff.
  • Team Type 1, which races internationally to promote Diabetes awareness.
  • Colavita - Sutter Home presented by Cooking Light.

Among the top Midwest teams and riders:

  • Texas Tough, including Chad Cagle. who was third last yar at winghaven and 2006 champ Matt Ankney.
  • TradeWind Energy/Trek Stores, featuring 2008 Missouri Best All Around Rider Brian Jensen.
  • Dogfish, with Missouri state road race champion Austin Allison.
  • ABD, feturing 2007 USCF National Amateur Criterium Championship 2nd place finisher Josh Carter.
  • Michelob Ultra / Big Shark Racing Team, with two-time NRC champion Scott Moninger, current US national track champion Colby Pearce, and St. Louis native Dan Schmatz.

The race is the last on the program and is scheduled to start about 2 p.m. Admission is free.
