The bump to the National Racing Calendar has netted a stronger field for the Tour de Winghaven, June 21 in O’Fallon, MO.

Teams committed to the men’s elite race include:

  • Jelly Belly, which could feature Springfield native Brad Huff
  • Team Type 1, dedicated to the fight against Type 1 diabetes
  • Texas Tough
  • Colavita/Cooking Light, which has raced in both Tours of Missouri
  • Mich-Ultra, which features former Garmin rider Colby Pearce, former BMC pros Scott Moninger and Dan Schmatz, The latter is a native of St. Louis who gained notoriety in the first Tour of Missouri for colliding with an armadillo.

The biggest challenge for the race will be attracting a crowd on Father’s Day.

Poor Dan. His name and armadillos will be joined for years!
I plan on watching the race. That will be my Father’s Day present to myself!

I apologize for that. I hope he wins the race, so I have a better way of identifying him in the future.

I hope the Winghaven organizers figure out a way to integrate the races into Father’s Day plans.

Thanks for posting this information. We are embracing Father’s Day with our planning for the race. This will be a great place to spend the day as a family, at a free event!!

We are still looking for volunteers and sponsors - you can’t have too many of either - and information for that can be found on the web site, http://www.tourdewinghaven.com. There is also contact information there for any specific questions.
