Whites break down barriers to teaching black studies
This is the 40th anniversary of the beginning of African-American studies programs on the nation’s campuses. The Chicago Tribune takes a look at the irony of the challenges whites have faced in becoming teachers in the field. According to the Tribune story, while whites have pursued doctorates in the field in large numbers, it is relatively rare to find those who teach. The barriers have been falling, albeit slowly, of late.




Ron is in charge of the main news sections of the Sunday Post-Dispatch and supervises newsroom production of the daily paper several nights a week. He has worked at newspapers since 1976 as a reporter, copy editor, layout editor, deputy sports editor and news editor. He has been at the Post-Dispatch since 2006.

I imagine that the same can be said of blacks teaching White studies classes. Oh wait, teaching white studies would be racist, wouldn’t it?
