Black kids booted from pool told they might “change the complexion” of private swim club in Philly

This story from the NBC affiliate in Philadelphia caught our eye. More than 60 poor kids in a summer day camp were turned away from a private swim club in which they had paid to get in. The camp director says it was because the kids are black.

This quote from the club president would seem to support that claim.

“There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion … and the atmosphere of the club,” said John Duesler, President of The Valley Swim Club.

I can’t Wait to see the story about the BLACK protesters who are going to disrupt the traffic during the all star game. “We are the world, we are the children”

DWalker - I always so enjoy your sophomoric personal attacks (which are apparently not allowed on the blogs) at me. They always show your true Christian spirit towards others and how you don’t truly embrace diversity.

Well, BOTH the Philly and Ohio stories are racist. Different twists, but in the end you have an incident that occurred because one group of people wanted to belittle another group of people of a different race.

Even if the Creative Steps people sometimes go looking for trouble (and yes I admit they have a history of that), that still doesn’t make the actions of the pool any less racist.

A private institution does not have to let anyone in that they don’t want to (and before someone has a problem with that, read the Constitution and see the dismal failure of Burke and NOW when they tried to force the Agusta National Golf Club to accept women). But it should be pointed out that the club accepted the money and therefore entered a contract with this group. If anything, Creative Steps should sue for breach of contract.

The worst part of the Philly story is that some innocent kids had to see a very ugly part of real life.

by the way, to D Walker: Your bringing in “Pro-Life” labels into this discussion is absolutely ridiculous. Us regular posters in these blogs know how you have to bend Scripture to fit your liberal views on life, but at least try to stay on topic. Sometimes you are a very frustrating person…

I don’t know about this Creative gismo, but, if they tried to enter a private club, KNOWING in advance it was private, and then paid their fee without divulging who the kids were that would attend, with the intent to create a racist situation knowing in advance that black children or adults would not be admitted, then they started the problem. Unfortunately blacks seem to assume that no matter who or what, they are entitled to be anywhere they want to be, private or not, invited or not is beside the point. Believe me, as an example, if I have a party attended by my friends who happen to be all white, and there are black families on the block who are NOT invited, then the ‘u-know-what’ will hit the fan if they try to bust into my party! There is a public park in this rinky-dink town where I live in ILL, that is dedicated to the blacks only, and if a white trys to use that park the blacks go ballistic, YET, a white person cannot have a private park, SO YOU TELL ME WHAT THE BLOODY HE#$$ IS THE DIFFERENTCE? Why is it OK for the blacks to segregate their park but not the white people? In my opinion they should have stayed away from the club - if they were invited, that is one thing, if not, and they use subterfuge to obtain entry, then that’s another!!!
The people that were attacked? What the gangsters yelled is perfectly obvious this was a hate crime and perpetrated by criminals to ‘get revenge’ on people that had done no wrong! The blacks should ALL be behind bars! Enough of this outrage is enuf! Something needs to change, and NOW, not later!

Here is the AP version of the story we ran in print and online. It provides greater detail and addresses some of the questions that have been posted here. Take a look.

If I were at a pool where 65 children showed up, I would leave, regardless of their skin color. That many children in 1 pool is dangerous, not to mention annoying. And I could certainly see why the club members would not want it to happen again.

BTW Doug, What exactly did Mr. Duesler say? Did he actually say “change the complexion” or was it “change the atmosphere”? Because 65 kids certainly would change the atmosphere.

This goes to show that integration is not just a Southern issue. While Southern schools were being integrated Northeastern, and many other schools remained seperate and unequal. Racism is spreading in the Northwest, and Western parts of these United States due to a nod and a wink from the Republican party. These groups hate Unions, liberals, and minorities. This is a powerful advantage to Republican interest groups since most of the aforementioned are democrats. These hate groups seek to repress or drive out democratic party members. They constantly assault their victims with verbal hate messages. They get away with this due to protection from a Conservative court i.e. Republicans on the bench. The Democrat party needs to take the bull by the horns and gag these groups before they do more harm.

I have lived in the Philadelphia area for nearly all of my adult life, and I am also a woman of color. It is a city that is full of diversity. There, we know the difference between racism and “discrimination”. I have a great deal of discrimination, and the fact that there hasn’t been an immediate call to sue the club is my first clue that there are underlying reasons why the membership was cancelled. It is rather obvious to me because I have spent a lot of time in many Philadelphia pools, both city pools and private pools. Sixty kids running rampant definitely changes the complexion of things, whether those kids are black, white, haole, or kama’aina. That’s way too many unsupervised children at one time.

This is something I simply do NOT understand and that is why does anyone EVER attempt to equat an existing problem to either a dem. or rep. party? That doesn’t even make sense and now racism is being tied to a political entity? Get real folks! People feel the way they do because of what they’ve experienced, seen, come in contac with, read about, seen on TV, etc. Being a republican or democrat has nothing to do with it! I can be a democrat that preaches liberalism, but if I’m not feeling liberal about something like the negative behavior of a person or group, then my being a democrat has nothing to do with it! That is a ridiculous accusation to make! The political parties have nothing to do with how I feel on a day to day basis, or what I see in my neighborhood or the streets of the town I live in, etc. I feel the way I do because of the negative behavior of that other group! Since most of us live in an average neighborhood, and not in the elite part of town with tons of money, our exposure to bad behavior is by far more frequent then theirs would be and I’m gonna judge those critters by what they do, how they act, say, dress, loud, curses, crimes committed, and I don’t give a tinkers-toot if they are gorgeous, ugly, pink, black, stipped or dressed like a clown! If I don’t like what you are doing and how it effects me and invades my space, then I’m not going to be on your side when the chips are down! Matter of fact I’ll probably call the cops and have you arrested! I’m entitled to live in my house in peace and transquility and not be disturbed by some ding bat that doesn’t give a hoot about anything, anyone, or even himself! You simply do NOT have the right to that kind of action or activity without consequences!!!!
