STL Today practically never opens its comment section to readers for a story happening outside the STL area. So why this one? Because of someone’s agenda at STL Today, whatever that may be? I’m not at all opposed to having this or other topics from outside the region being open to reader comments, but I do think it should be an all or nothing matter.

Mr. Moore seems to be putting alot of effort towards telling us all about these poor black kids but is completely ignoring the attack on that white family in Ohio. Tell us Mr. Moore, why do you and your cohorts only see racism against one color? Why is this a blog about the black race, when it should be about race issues of all kinds?

I really don’t understand these liberal journalists. They must feel some white guilt or something.

Before D. Walker goes all nutso, I do think this swim club incident is ridiculous and deserved some attention. As someone who also was attacked just for being white, I am disgusted by the lack of attention that is given to incidents like the one in Ohio.

Maybe all the middle aged white women were jealous of their deep dark tans?

I’m sure Doug (and some readers) were taken aback at the direction this blog took once the comments started pouring in. Sorry, but asking why obscure incidents of race-based injustice directed toward one group remain obscure while similar incidents directed at another group become national news is perfectly appropriate.
What happened in Ohio does not make the Philly incident any better or worse. Frankly, I was surprised that the bigotry shown by the swim club still exists in America and it should be condemned. This club has brought shame on itself. BUT NO ONE can honestly deny most journalists exhibit selective outrage in these cases. If a white rabble had descended on and beaten a non-white family, Doug and everyone else knows it would have been a top news story. Ever heard of Yankel(sp?) Rosenbaum? If not, google the name. Then tell me why the media yawned at his fate.

I can give “you people” chapter and verse on incidents across the country where blacks maltreated or killed a white person or persons.
Lets look close to home. Date line Alton Ill.

Richard Skelton kicked to death by a mob of Negro’s. No hate crime presented to grand jury. Bob Hadia (sp) prosecutor refused to file an added charge of a hate crime. Even when witnesses said the Negro’s while killing him, expressed racial epithets, but according to Hadia it’s just a crime not based on racial hatred towards Skelton who is white. This story stayed local never made the NBC or CBS nightly news. These kinds of incidents happen across this country weekly.

ThomasFranklin, you, of all people, making a crude, sarcastic, remark like that against older white women? To make my point - I have NEVER heard anyone in my entire life state they wanted to be as black/tanned as a black person. I’ve never seen anyone go down and have cosmetic surgery to change their features so they look black. I’ve heard them copy the speech, braids, walk, and the loud radios, but that’s about it and it looks ridiculous on them. Of course, I haven’t seen everyone so there might be more out there that I don’t know about. And why pick on middle aged white women? You surprised me, but I guess this shows that no matter how unbiased a person presents themselves down deep they are just like everyone else inside.
And, a lot of kids, no matter the color or gender, WOULD change the complexion and atmoshpere of any place, and certainly a quiet, private club! Did you ever go to a movie where there are lots of kids? They scream, hollar, run up and down the aisles, cry,fight, and create havoc for everyone else in the place - it would be no different at the swimming pool. They would be doing the same thing, PLUS, shoving each other in the water, splashing everyone, throwing objects, etc. It would be chaos and I would’t want any part of it myself - black, or white. Let them go to their own pool that is designed for children, and not for adults.

65 kids at a private pool changes the way it is. These kids just happened to be minorities so it becomes a big story. Glad to see we can at least stir up the press still. Vhat a country!
