South Korea considers law barring race discrimination

Here’s a piece from the New York Times about South Korea, where foreigners are greeted with racial slurs and face discrimination. For the first time, Parliament is considering legislation defining ethnic and racial discrimination and imposing criminal penalties.

“For most South Koreans, globalization has largely meant increasing exports or going abroad to study,” the story says. “But now that it is also bringing an influx of foreigners into a society where 42 percent of respondents in a 2008 survey said they had never once spoken with a foreigner, South Koreans are learning to adjust — often uncomfortably.”

At a forum to discuss the legislation, critics “charged that such a law would only encourage even more migrant workers to come to South Korea, pushing native workers out of jobs and creating crime-infested slums. They also said it was too difficult to define what was racially or culturally offensive.”

Yes there are laws against discrimination. However in practice there useless. As for jobs yes it happens, if your a white American or European you are more likely to get the job teaching English if your rivals were either African or African American.

My advice to the So Koreans is read what happen to the Roman empire. If they can keep their society free of non Koreans or a very low amount of immigrants, they will not regret their action in the long run.

thegoviskillingme,

Do you care to explain to us why you are of the mind that foreigners caused the fall of Rome?

It is a more accepted belief that Rome fell because of a combination of such factors as Christianity, corruption, greed and military problems. Over time, Church leaders became influential and took away power from the emperor. Christian beliefs conflicted with the working of the empire.

I am more likely to believe as a Christian and my familiarity with what Scripture teaches that Rome fell due to Fanatical Christians attempting in error to force this world’s system and government to appear as if Christ was the King of this present earth refusing to truly believe which would show by their behavior that this present earth is not intended to ever become the Kingdom of God.

Such people who call themselves Christians are attempting to force what they perceive to be Christian conduct and beliefs upon everyone through government in attempting to gain holiness and righteousness for themselves in this ungodly way. I am more likely to believe that this was the reason for the fall of Rome.

This sickness began even when Jesus was upon the earth, and He stated,

“Moses’ Teachings and the Prophets were [in force] until the time of John. Since that time, people have been telling the Good News about the kingdom of God, and everyone is trying to force their way into it.” Luke 16:16

“From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force.” Matthew 11:12

Treating people disparately and unjustly, discriminating against them is never right or a solution. Such behavior will bring about destruction where ever it is allowed to take hold. It is a very big mistake to look at such wicked behavior as a self-preserving action because the only thing one will gain from such an attitude is great loss in the end.

God looks upon foreigners with much compassion. The command to love your neighbor (Lv 19:18) was extended to the foreigner: ‘When an alien lives with you in your land, do not ill-treat him. The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt.’ (Lv. 19:33-34 Dt. 10:19)

Now anyone can choose not to have genuine love in their hearts towards foreigners but mistreatment of people because they are foreign or because of race, gender or sexual preference or religion etc. must not be tolerated in the best interest of society.

If anything, the Jim Crow era of America should serve as an example of the destructiveness of the path that they are going down now concerning discrimination and all its destructiveness and evils.

Please don’t preach your gospel.
Rome fell because it spread it wings across the known world and brought people of different culture into its web. They, because of not having enough Romans to controls its holdings it had to depend on people that had a different view of the world then the Romans. its just the same with this country ,our [problems] are directly related to people that don’t have the same cultural beliefs. they think and speak differently then most Americans, as did those under the roman empire rule. Granted, many people from other countries when they come here legally take about two to three generation to inculcate themselves into this society. when People in this country stop tolerating this scourge on this country, we could become the super power we were. we are heading to the down fall as the Roman empire.

thegoviskillingme,

So are you of the belief that Columbus should have stayed the heck away from America and not migrated into this country?

Are you stating that people of different races, cultures and beliefs should not have scattered to other regions of the world, but should have stayed put just where they originated from? Jews, Italians, Africans, Greeks etc? No migration should ever be allowed? Is this what you are saying?
