Be work-zone safe
Ken Leiser
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Not that it should take a reminder for most motorists. But state transportation officials want drivers to slow down in construction zones.

The Missouri Department of Transportation will use billboards and radio spots to get the point across. But the most visible effort will be seen during the week of April 7 — Work Zone Awareness Week — when Missouri state buildings and landmarks will be lit with orange light.

So will the St. Louis Science Center, Busch Stadium and the St. Louis Zoo. Missouri highway officials say the public awareness campaigns appear to be paying off with heightened driver awareness. There was a 74 percent drop in work zone deaths statewide in 2007 compared to the previous year.
