Name that train
It’s not too late to suggest a brand name for Amtrak’s St. Louis to Kansas City rail service.
The Missouri Department of Transportation and Amtrak are co-sponsoring a “Name the Train” contest, and more than 2,800 names have been entered so far. You can find more information about the contest on MoDOT’s passenger rails web site, www.morail.org. There, you’ll find a YouTube video that MoDOT produced to promote the competition.
The deadline to enter a name is Dec. 10. Judges will select five finalists and online voting will be held between Dec. 16 and Jan. 16. The new name will be announced on Jan. 30. While anyone can enter, you have to be a Missouri resident to win a prize. (The five finalists will receive two round-trip, coach tickets to any Amtrak stop in Missouri. The winner will receive two round-trip, sleeping-car tickets on Amtrak to any of the rail service’s U.S. destinations).
You can submit entries online at www.morail.org, or mail it to MoDOT, Name the Train Contest, P.O. Box 270, Jefferson City, MO 65102. You can also hand-deliver it to your nearest MoDOT district office (find them at modot.org).
