Rules of the (snow-covered) road
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
The Missouri Department of Transportation is in full winter mode with snow expected tonight and Tuesday in the St. Louis area.
MoDOT encourages drivers to leave their cars in the garage unless they have to drive on Tuesday. If you do take to the roads, here are a few tips being passed out by state highway officials:
- Drive slow. That means reducing your speed to half of the posted limit when there’s snow on the road. At least. Reduce your speed by one-third of the posted limit and turn on your headlights when the roads are wet.
- Steer clear of the plows. That means laying back at least 100 feet from the plows. Don’t pass them or drive alongside them either.
- In fact … it’s probably safest just to drive behind the plows.
MoDOT says its crews will be working 12-hour shifts until the roads are cleared during this winter storm.

The only way you are going to get the idiots around here to comply with what you say is to tell them to either drive like maniacs, or stay in the left lane and go 10 mph. Don’t forget that 4-wheel drive means you can go even faster because nobody else has brakes on all four wheels, and the bigger your truck, the more you get to weave in and out of lanes.
Whoa, looks like someone needs a zoloft…or should just stay off the road.
Where did they get this picture with all the snow …it has to be somewhere
other than St Louis because we don’t have this amount of snow yet!
MoDOT plows in the city? You could have fooled me.
