Warnings on some Metro bus shelter ads

Warnings went up Friday on MetroBus shelters carrying alcohol ads in St. Louis and St. Louis County.

Metro acknowledged last week that ads for Colt 45 malt liquor, which went up earlier this month, should have had disclaimers under the transit agency’s new advertising policy. Other bus shelters have ads for Budweiser in the context of Major League Baseball’s upcoming All-Star game at Busch Stadium.

Metro’s policy requires alcohol ads to include Missouri’s legal drinking age - 21 - and and warn of the potential dangers of alcohol consumption during pregnancy, while operating heavy machinery or while driving. The statement has to cover at least 3 percent of the ad space.

Riders and some community leaders said the ads sent the wrong message and should have included the disclaimer.

Metro spokeswoman Angela Fletcher-Mabry said temporary disclaimers were being put up on shelters today and the work was expected to be complete by the close of business. The 8 1/2-by-11-inch notes will have to do until new posters are printed next week.

Metro’s bus shelter advertising is contracted out to Wall Decaux. The company builds the shelters and makes money by selling ads on the shelter panels. About 40 of the shelters carried alcohol ads, Fletcher-Mabry said.

Warnings are for idiots. If you’re that incompetent to not know what effects alcohol has on your body, you shouldn’t be pregnant, operating machinery, etc. Opps, forgot. This is America.

Lets remove all warning signs and let those without common sense fall to teh wayside. Stupid people are breathing our air.

The news from Busch Statium tonight sound like beer ads should have the disclaimer saying…”Warning: HOT temperture and COLD beer may cause Cardinal Fans to highdive from the upper deck!”

I thought “Works Every Time” was the warning.

Colt 45? Works every time??

Yeah, right.

The posters that come down off the bus shelters will probably turn up at the homeless shelters.

Q: What’s the difference between Michael Jackson and a grocery bag?
A: One is white, made out of plastic, and dangerous for kids to play with and the other covers up the can of Colt 45 you’re drinking in the bus shelter.
