Today’s AM rush: for most, no biggie

The first morning rush without the eastern half of Highway 40 seems to be going *fairly* well. There are backups in normal spots. Weather is complicating some commutes. Ice buildup on overhead lines is slowing down MetroLink.  Forest Park Parkway was backed up at Big Bend Boulevard and at Skinker. Westbound was more of a problem than eastbound. The exit ramp from eastbound I-44 to Kingshighway was clogged. And traffic was thick on I-270 and northbound Kingshighway. For whatever reason, police had two lanes closed on westbound I-44 near Jefferson.

Nothing all that new there. As for the rebuilt section of 40 (Interstate 64), drivers are definately using it. Traffic was heavier heading east this morning. Some drivers were making sudden lane changes at McKnight Road.

I was surprised that with the shutdown AND the weather that my commute on 70 in the city was easier than normal. It didn’t hurt that the express lanes were open going eastbound.
I can’t help but wonder if lots of people stayed home today.
