For the new Mississippi River bridge to go up, overpasses first must come down. This summer, MoDOT will hire contractors to tear down and rebuild bridges carrying St. Louis and Madison avenues over Interstate 70.  They also will remove the Cass Avenue bridge. This work will require closing I-70 for a weekend at a time and won’t occur until after Highway 40 reopens. The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold an open house tonight so the public can learn more about the work.  Click here for more info.

The contract may be let this summer for this work for funding reasons but I was told these overpasses wouldn’t come down until a week after I-64 was re-opened.

You’re correct, as I was just reminded at the open house. Additional information has been added to the blog post. Thanks.
