New Highway 40 lanes open in St. Charles County
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
The effort to upgrade Highway 40-61 to interstate standards in St. Charles County reached another milestone today. The Missouri Department of Transporattion today opened two new westbound lanes of Highway 40 between Lake Saint Louis and Callahan Road. Traffic makes a slight jog when reaching the lights at Callahan Road. The traffic signal will be coming down this year, once the work on the Prospect bridge and interchange is finished, according to MoDOT.

It’s a shame that it’s taking as long to do this short (2 miles maybe) stretch as it did to do the entire St. Louis section.
Kaos: True it is taking longer. However the St. Charles County project is being constructed by a smaller “local” contractor with a reasonable schedule. In St Louis County, the project is being constructed by a partnership of a few, large out of town firms under an insane schedule. I can assure you that to cut the schedule and price of the “New I-64″, other things were cut as well.
So which project do you think is better now?
And which contractor do you think will be in the area 5 years from now?
