All-Star traffic closures
Among the lane and road closures during Tuesday’s All-Star Game is one big one. Highway 40 (Interstate 64) will close near Busch Stadium. At 5 p.m., all lanes between the Poplar Street Bridge and 14th Street will be shut down for security and public safety puposes, the Missouri Department of Transportation has announced. Lanes will reopen when the game ends.
Anyone driving to the game are advised to start planning alternative routes. The exit from eastbound Highway 40 at 14th Street will be the last exit open. Those heading west across the Poplar Street Bridge can take Interstate 55 and Interstate 70/Memorial Drive.
Here are the scheduled ramp and lane closures between now and Tuesday:
Today through Sunday, the ramp from northbound I-55 to Memorial Drive; westbound I-70 at the Poplar Street Bridge to Memorial Drive.
Saturday, starting at 6 a.m., eastbound I-70 to Pine Street and Memorial Drive will close.
On Monday, these ramps will remain closed: Northbound I-55/I-44 to Memorial Drive; eastbound I-70 to Pine Street and Memorial Drive. These ramps will reopen: westbound I-70 at the Poplar Street to Memorial before rush hours. While this ramp is open, access from Memorial will be restricted.
Tuesday, both sides of Highway 40 (I-64) will close at 5 p.m. from the Poplar Street to 14th Street.
No closures are planned for Wednesday.

I am coming to the game Tuesday, staying at Hilton at the Ballpark. If I am arriving around 11 a.m. from Illinois on 55, how can I get to the hotel? Thanks for any advice.
It’s pretty simple BigMacLess…. you do one of two things. One, you take the MLK bridge. Two, you take the Eads bridge. Both bridges take you directly into downtown.
Personally with all of the road closures I would us the Martin Luther King Bridge. You can make a left at the first light to get you under 70 by the Ed Jones Dome where you can go left onto southbound N. Broadway. I believe that the Hilton is at Walnut and S Broadway. Good luck, considering all of the road closures that seems to be a safe route. I don’t think anyway is going to be quick. Just listen to 550am on your way in and get a traffic report. The poplar street bridge may be a awful since Memorial Dr is closed and I am not sure what time 40 is closing. That means only two lanes will be exiting from there. Uhg.
Thank guys, I appreciate it. Sounds like MLK is the way to go. Never been that way before, but it looks pretty simple. My biggest concern is being able to get to the hotel’s front door.
I wish they would have taken the time to cover the exit sign for Pine and Memorial Drive on EB 70 as it references Busch stadium. And there is (at least “was” on Saturday and Sunday) no reference beforehand that these exits are closed.
I think this will be very confusing to the out-o-towner who is not familiar. And, if they think their best option is to take the NEXT exit on Hwy 70 then they will end up in Illinois.
I have no objection to the actual highway and exit closures. I think we just need to be absolutely sure we are being clear about them for sake of non-St Louisans (and even some of the locals, too).
Here’s my question — what sort of closures should we expect because the president is coming into town to throw out the first pitch? I’ve heard all about I-64 closing by the stadium and the exit ramps, but how will the presidential motorcade get downtown from the airport? I can’t imagine the impact on traffic will be pretty.
Does the closure begin at the bridge or include the bridge? I’m wondering if I can take 44 toward downtown and exit onto the PSB.
Does anyone have a site or blog or something telling the route Obama will be taking? I know noone knows until last minute probably, just wondering if I should plan on working til after 7pm or try to leave early. Any thoughts?
From what I’ve been hearing: if you are staying at a hotel that you can visibly see the Busch Stadium, you will not be allowed in your room while the game is going on only when the game is over and Obama has left
News stated that I-70 will be blocked off for when Obama comes from Lambert to Busch Stadium and from the Stadium back to Lambert
