Hanley overpass at Highway 40 open again

Traffic is once again flowing across the Hanley Road overpass at Highway 40 (Interstate 64) after being closed since late December. Crews reopened the overpass around 2 p.m.

There’s still work to do in the area. Drivers, beware that your access point to Eager Road will be different for the next three months. Accessing Eager from Hanley will require turning at Meridian Drive, across from Dale Avenue, and behind the shopping center that holds Best Buy.

The configuration is causing confusion. Those traveling east on Eager: if you’re in the right lane, you’ll be detoured onto Industrial Court Drive, which will put you back onto Hanley at Strassner Drive. If you’re in the left lane, you’ll be sent onto Meridian Drive, which will put you onto Hanley just south of the overpass.

We’re preparing an updated map. For the time being, click on: hanleyreopening2.

Confustion? Seriously? That’s one of the best compound buzzwords I’ve seen in a long time, actually.

And I’m so thankful that Hanley is back open! I can’t wait until this entire idiotic project is over.

Kinda disappointed that it is reopening. I have to drive the Hanley - Eager - 170 route every day to get to and from work, and I was dreading the day they closed this bridge. I thought my commute times would blow up.

Was I ever wrong.

With the Hanley and Big Bend bridges closed, my commute times are faster than they have ever been. What used to take 40-45 minutes now only takes me 25-30 minutes. Talk about counter-intuitive. It turns out that closing the Hanley bridge removed more than half the vehicles that used to clog Hanley every morning.

And now that Hanley is re-opened, and all the commuters will return to driving into Clayton via Hanley, my commute times will go back to 40-45 minutes. I am not looking forward to waiting 3 or more light cycles at Hanley/Manchester just to get thru the intersection.

I know this has been a long wait for people who need to get in and out of Clayton, but these past few months without this bridge have been the best ever for this commuter.

I’m considering hiring a contractor to go out and blow that bridge up this weekend. (JOKE!)

Kudos to everyone involved in the Highway 40 project. They have completed the work consistently ahead of schedule and kept us well informed throughout the project. MoDot should be proud of selecting the contractors and everyone involved should be proud of the excellent job they have done…Thanks to all involved.By the way, I don’t have any connection to any of the companies involved.

I have to agree that having the Hanley overpass closed has been fantastic for this North-of-40 resident. The traffic on Clayton has not been bad, Hanley to downtown Clayton has been light, there is no gridlock at the dreaded Clayton/Hanley intersection. The only downside is getting to Dierberg’s or Walmart, but I only do that once a week.

voiceinthewilderness,

Gateway Constructors is the low bidder. MODOT did NOT choose them; they won the bid. That’s it.

Actually, this was not a low-bid project. Teams had to present what they intended to design and build and Gateway was deemed to produce a better project. This was a Quality Based Selection.
