Gas prices fueling bike sales
We had our hunches, and now a survey confirms it: bike sellers are making a killing from this summer’s high gasoline prices.
A survey of more than 150 bicycle retailers from nearly 40 states show that pump prices are driving bike sales. As a result, more people are pedaling places rather than driving their vehicles. The survey results, released by Bikes Belong, say that 73 percent of bike sellers are selling more bikes this year than last; 84 percent report selling more accessories; 88 percent report selling more service (more people are taking their bikes out of the basement and getting tune-ups).
Most retailers surveyed credit gas prices. Ninety-five percent say customers cited gas prices as a reason for their purchases. Wanna read more of the survey? You can, by clicking here.
