Highway 40 work hits Forest Park
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
The next closure in the Highway 40 (Interstate 64) rebuilding effort will be in Forest Park. The intersection of Wells and Hampton/Concourse avenues will close March 2 through late May so crews can finish up work associated with the new Hampton Avenue overpass, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.
They’ll be building a new roundabout and a pedestrian underpass that will take the jogging and bicycle trail under Hampton Avenue, rather than across it. Park users will be able to use the trail during construction.
The Hampton bridge is scheduled to reopen on May 22 with one lane in each direction. All lanes should be open by July 4.

Underpasses are good places for muggings. At least it will be close to Forest Park Hospital so they don’t have far to crawl to get medical treatment…
This is getting ridiculous! I live near many of these closures and the traffic in my neighborhood has become crazy. Many of the streets have been made one way which has helped some. However, drivers continue to go the wrong way down the streets, which is incredibly dangerous. Now another closure is going to happen in early March that will also effect the traffic trying to get around 40/64 closures. How much traffic can the Tamm overpass handle? What the heck is it going to be like on St. Patrick’s day in Dogtown when Tamm Ave is closed for the parade and after party?
I would like to know why MO-DOT can’t at least wait until one of the current closures is finished before they add another one. Drivers still don’t seem to understand the Oakland Ave overpass is closed! The bridge is gone, you can not get through to Skinker, McCausland or Clayton Ave via Oakland Ave.
I’m not sure anyone realized what an impact this was going to have on the city residents who live around this phase of the project. Drivers realistically are not going to take many of the alternate routes suggested by MO-DOT. Even when it makes sense to do so, drivers still try to go the way the always have!
What a nightmare!!
Guess I won’t be taking the kids to the zoo until after Juny 4.
Park users will be able to use the current during construction.
Use the current what?
