Signs signal return of bus service

Metro sign worker Rickey Smith puts up one of the new signs on the mporarily restored metro bus lines Friday morning.
The bus drivers and mechanics have been recalled, and now the green signs are going up. Several Metro employees spent today putting up new covers at bus stops where service had been eliminated on March 30, and will be restored on Aug. 3.
The changes affect more than 30 routes, said Adella Jones, Metro spokeswoman, as workers put the covers up at bus stops along Washington Avenue this morning. The vinyl covers are going up at 2,000 stops across St. Louis and St. Louis County and read: “Thanks to emergency funding from both the state and federal governments this service is temporarily restored, August 3, 2009 until May 2010.”
Missouri lawmakers are sending $12 million in federal stimulus funds to Metro to pay for the restored service. As the signs read, the service will last less about 10 months. Transit officials are hoping St. Louis County voters approve a sales tax increase next year to keep the bus lines rolling.

Ms. Crouch,
Have they disclosed what routes are being restored or provided you a list? This information would be very helpful to readers. I know many high school students who rode Metro until the route cuts earlier this year, and then they were scrambling to get to school the last 2 months of the school year.
If you could update your article with the restored route info that would be much appreciated.

This is such good news! I hope the voters keep it going with the sales tax to keep the service! It’s such a necessity.
Let’s give them another chance to fail…
How much free money is “Metro” spending on these sign’s? Will someone answer: a) why “Metro” has all the lights on for months on the now shuttered Brentwood bus depot? & b) Why has “Metro” spent money on doing parking lot work performed on the now shuttered Brentwood bus depot?
It is quite apparent the “Metro” continue’s to freely waste money because it is not their money! Did “Metro” elimate any of the top heavy fat from their pay roll?
Such a waste!!!!
This wonderful news! So happy to hear that people are getting there jobs back and that more people can get around town easier! The Law makers got it right on this one.
It is quite apparent? I don’t know if attempting to inform people that a bus stop has been restored is a “waste of money”.
And the “shuttered” Brentwood facility still does have some Metro staff working there. And from what I can tell, they don’t have all of the lights burning all of the time, rather just lighting on at night for security purposes. So the buses that are stored there don’t get vandalized or stolen.
What a waste of manpower and money. It takes two people to remove sign covers? We will pay for it in NOv at the poles.
My gosh, every Metro article is immediately followed by an lwingo comment about the stinking lights at Brentwood. The lights are part of the parking and driveway complex. How many lights are we talking here? I count a few light posts. The rest of the garage, as well as the driveway and Metrolink station, are used heavily and benefit from the lights. lwingo, seeing as how it must really dig into your skin to complain about the lights on every single article, have you called Metro to ask them? Perhaps the simple answer might surprise you!
I for one am hoping Saint louis COUNTY voters vote down a tax increase next year. That is all we are going to need is another tax increase to go with all of the other ones coming down the line with Tax&Trade and Goverment forced healthcare.I can’t wait for all the tax increases it’s going to awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
