President Bush will be in our neck of the woods tomorrow, touring a warehouse in Maryland Heights. This means roads and highways will close for short periods of time to provide better security for his motorcade.
The Secret Service is not releasing the motorcade route, or the time Bush is expected to be on the streets of St. Louis County. So, planning trips around the closures will require some guess work from the rest of us.
Which led Andrea Clark of Glendale to wonder if she’ll get stuck and miss her flight tomorrow at Lambert. “Should we be concerned about Interstate 70 being shut down near the airport, thereby preventing us from getting to our plane?”
Closing I-70 for 15 minutes or so it possible, since Air Force One typically flies into Lambert, and I-70 is the best way out. The motorcade shouldn’t tie up traffic during rush times, said Jim Bohnert, assistant special agent with the U.S. Secret Service.
“The routes are planned to minimize inconvenience to the motoring public,” he said. “We know it impacts you. We take that into consideration when we plan these routes.”
