Missouri’s gasoline addiction worse than most

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Going on a gasoline diet is easier if you live in just about any other state but Missouri. A report released today by the Natural Resources Defense Council ranks the state among the top 10 states for doing the least to reduce our dependence on oil.

Investing in public transit, adopting laws promoting clean and fuel efficient vehicles are actions most other states are taking to give drivers alternatives to budget busting gasoline prices. States doing the most: California, New York, Connecticut, Washington, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Rhode Island, New Mexico, Colorado and Maryland.

According to the report, the average Missourian spends 6 percent of his or her income on gasoline — nearly twice what drivers in Connecticut spend and 1.1 times the national average. Drivers in Mississippi have it the worst. On averge, they spend 8 percent of their income on gasoline.

Yet another post dispatach bad link so I couldn’t read the report, but I guess what needs to be done, now that we know what’s going on with gas prices and our dependance on oil is elect some legislators with some guts who will help promote public transit and more efficient vehicles.
