Camp Day 4: Injuries start to mount

MEQUON, Wis. — The bumps and bruises are starting to pile up, as can be expected as we get deeper into camp. First-team cornerback Fakhir Brown (shoulder) is out 2-3 weeks, free-agent rookie defensive tackle Josh Thompson (foot) is gone for at least a month, and defensive lineman Victor Adeyanju returned to St. Louis on Monday morning for surgery on a broken middle finger. He’ll miss 2-4 weeks.

In addition, several players were fighting cramps and other assorted dings, including linebacker Chris Draft, safety Oshiomogho Atogwe and corner/safety Ron Bartell. Conversely, defensive lineman C.J. Ah You (bruised thigh) was back at practice.

“This is where you start getting banged up a little bit, and we’ve got to make some adjustments,”coach Scott Linehan. “Usually about this time you start getting those kind of things. A lot of it’s precautionary stuff.”

To shore up their depth because of the injuries, the Rams are planning to bring in two or three new players. The first arrived Monday morning: Cortney Grixby, a cornerback from Nebraska who was signed by Carolina as an undrafted rookie and released July 16. If he passed a physical, Grixby, 5-9 and 170, was to be on the field Monday afternoon.

Notes & quotes:

>>LBs Vince Hall and Marc Magro, both undrafted rookies, are showing potential.

>>Second-year CB Jonathan Wade looks much more comfortable and has made some impressive plays.

>>Dustin Fry, a C from Clemson drafted in the fifth round last year, is working mostly at RG.

>>Veteran FB Dan Kreider is gradually being worked in with the No. 1 offense.

>>After the morning practice, the players sang “Happy Birthday” to Ray Ogas, the team’s director of player programs. Ogas turned 60.

All for now. . . more after the late practice.

Coach Magoo says these bumps and bruises are pretty common in training camp… Wow! More Keen insight from our fearless leader. Brown is out for 3 weeks. New FA DT in surgery. Punk Jackson at home watching re-runs on the NFL network of when he was good. The defense looks good versus the offense because the OL is pitiful. Mizzou would look good against that O line. The whole roster has a dearth of depth much like coach Magoo. The one thing that Magoo should worry about is the special teams. No depth bodes badly for the quality of the special teams. Last year the ST sucked like Britney Spears. You cant Kick Punt or Tackle on ST you lose. I don’t care how many yards Leonard can rush or Green can pass. Trust me on this with his protection Bulger will not last through training camp. Punk Jackson should be cut for voiding his contract. Laroi Glover needs to get bigger pants. Please.

I hope to god Grixby does not make this team. As a big Nebraska fan, I watched him get beat and beat for four years. Plenty of speed but no size or skill. Save the team some trouble and cut him now.

Did you watch any of the 06 rams mr.cromwell? Behind that line Bulger and Steven had pro bowl years. The 08 line featured remnants of St.Charles County Community backup linemen so in no way can you compare the two. Look around the league, the injuries are starting to mount. Cincy just lost their biggest Free agent aquisition today to injury. Its just practice so why dont you calm down. I find it hard to believe how the defense could not be winning the battle due simply to the fact that the offense is learning a new system while the defense has been working under the same system for about 3 years now. Special Teams also didnt ”suck” last year. Hall/Stanley still averaged in the top of the league on returns. We had a pro bowl quality kicker and punter. Our coverage was definitly middle of the road but so is a lot of the NFL’s. Oh by the way our biggest free agent this offseason was a special teamer so I think you buddy mr.magoo is paying attention to the special teams. Brown’s foot alone will upgrade our coverage unit immensely. Dont call Jackson a punk, the man definitly needs a pay raise cause last time I checked the NFL’s retiment program doesnt really take care of its players. He is just looking out for himself seeing that he only has about 5 years left in his career. Have you ever tried to make all your money for the rest of your life in 8 or 10 years? Seems pretty hard to me so give the guy a break. Why dont you pay attention to the team instead of just whining.

hey cromwell why dont you go jump on the pats band wagon. they dont have many injuries… they just cheat! injuries are such a common part of the nfl that going deep in the playoffs has as much to do with an injury free team as it does talent.

This team doesnt have a chance. I agree with cromwell. Mr Magoo doesnt have a clue when it comes to coaching. He has systematically destroyed a great team that should’ve compete last year. Steven Jackson is a punk, my gosh rushing for a 1000 yards is nothing. God, if you’re playing 16 games in a season the norm should be around 1400-1500 yards a season. All i’ve every heard Mr. Punk Jackson do is whine. He’s always wanted to fill Marshall’s shoes, but he can’t. He never be a serious premiem back in the NFL, he runs his mouth to much. Just get out and play the game. This should have been a dynasty team, but instead its just another team getting ready to move.

I think this comment thread just showed us who Mr. Burwell’s “Internet Idiots” are.

Jackson should hold out for market value. The only leverage a player has is to hold out and the Rams will do what they always do under John Shaw. Trade great RBs (Dickerson/Bettis) to an organization wanting to win. The Ram’s seldom look at wins over profits. You mooks that think that Jackson isn’t one of the best backs in the league don’t know what you have.
