Shakeup on defense
If Wednesday’s practice was a true indication — and it usually is — the Rams might well have five new starters Sunday when they take on the unbeaten Buffalo Bills at the Dome.
We knew Tuesday that Trent Green was taking over for Marc Bulger at quarterback. It also looks as if four lineup changes are coming on defense:
*Cornerback Fakhir Brown, who started in Tye Hill’s place Sunday at Seattle, was released Wednesday morning. Hill was back in the lineup at practice.
*Clifton Ryan was at defensive tackle, replacing La’Roi Glover.
*Victor Adeyanju was at defensive end, in James Hall’s spot. (We don’t know yet whether Leonard Little will be healthy enough to play this week.) Adeyanju was on the left side, with Chris Long back on the right side.
*Chris Draft was at strongside linebacker, taking over for Quinton Culberson.
Give coach Scott Linehan at least some credit: He vowed to make changes, and it looks as if he has. Of course, with the Rams dead last in total defense in the league, it really was a no-brainer.
All for now . . . more after we talk with Linehan.

Johnson should be starting at safety, really anyone in place of chavous and atogwe.
Tye Hill is starting.. that’s all you need to know
where not done yet we need to put ricky mannyjr in the lineup and safty todd johnson i bet he will do a better job then chavous and start greco over barron and avery over dane looker and get eddie kennison some playing time we should sigh lance ball to help out at RB i think the rams should play brock berlin he had a good preseason
Pisa should be benched over Culberson because at least Culberson hustles - Pisa is never in position to make a play and never hustles to chase the ball carrier down. He cannot tackle either. What a waste of money! And why is Chavous still playing?
Who is starting in Linehan’s spot?
and how about incognito at center, leckey out, goldberg to right guard, and greko at right tackle for barron? the whole right side of the offensive line needs to be replaced.
Is this a joke? Chavous is still playing, and Tye Hill is starting? Trent Edwards is going to have a career game, Lee Evans is going to torch us. Marshawn Lynch is going to run right through our line, and we will continue to through bonehead schemes and plays in on defense. Tell me how Trent is going to stay vertical the whole game behind Leckey and Incognito? Not to mention, Holt and Looker stretching the field or lack there of, taking to long to run routes, with a shotty line equals, Trent with a concussion.
Given Linehan some credit? I don’t think so. Hill is still playing, Buffalo is gonna have a field day on sunday. After yesteday’s benching of Bulger and making him a scapegoat and now this mess Linehan has pretty much put the final nail in his coffin. This is such a joke it really is.
Are you telling me the Ram’s strategy was to not play their best players before? These players are scapegoats for poor front office and coaching decision making.
I remember when I used to blame Georgia for everything but you cannot fire the owner.
The Rams have talent! Don’t give up on Hill, hes young and has the speed and toughness to cover he needs to work on technique. Johnson over Chavous is a no brainer. Replace Incognito and Barron with the rookies they cant be any worse. Draft should be in the middle with culberson and Witherspoon outside. but overall I’m glad to see some changes.
Why is Tye Hill still on this team? Isn’t there a high school that can give one of its students a day pass to play corner for that clown?
Linehan must have Trent Edwards on his fantasy team because that is the only reason why T Hill should be out there on Sunday, that or Hill can suck a medicine ball thru a garden hose!!!
It does not matter what players you put on the field at this point. This team is worse than last year… Heads need to roll now… Starting with the head coach. He is the one that put this pile of #@*&%$ together…
Green may give them a spark, but he is going to get crushed just like Mark when he has a 320lb lineman tossed on top of him at the snap of the ball…
You can not give Linehan any credit. True he is making changes, but they simply confirm that he has no idea on how to get out of the mess that he has created with this football team. Tye Hill needs to be benched (very least) or cut (preferred). He has been burned for several large yardage plays in the first three games and this weekend will be no exception.
Who will be replacing Scott Linehan and Jim Haslett this Sunday?
Bring in ILB J Leman. He was a tackling machine at Illinois and I believe he didn’t make it with the Vikings. At least he’s a sure tackler, unlike every other Lb on the roster.
How can any of these changes, honestly make a real differance, its the same coaches, with the same schemes,or packages, whatever, maybe we only lose by 17pts(so thats progress),Fire all the coaches, this just is a fascade that Linehan is trying,he is a phony,,,,so its all Bulger and Browns fault, Right !!! Idiots
Credit goes to the Front Office and Coaching Staff upon their mass resignation, nothing short of that. This is the Bill Coats who gave the team passing grades for last week’s performance, LOL. Let’s see, why do we have to “shake up” the playing mix? Could that be because key players are battered and bruised and scared (Bulger) or that they are crappy players to begin with (responsibility — Jay Zygmunt) or badly coached (responsibility - John Shaw and Jay Zygmunt for hiring Linehan).
This is so silly. I predict an utter disaster Sunday with even more confusion than usual. Oh, maybe we get a little pump at the start. It won’t last.
There is some debate among Buffalo Bills fans how good their pass rush is, so Green may not have it as bad as it could be. They do have an outstanding run defense, so if Jackson is contained, it will be pass and pass and pass. After awhile, you can expect the pass blocking to break down. The defense…..forget it.
Encore Please
Hi Rams fans,
I think its time to think or act on replacing all the coaches starting with Linehan. Heck what is can hurt the Lambs?
I am so glad to see these changes. I am sick to death of everyone blaming the coaches. I can’t tell you how many times I heard that the team doesn’t want to play for “those” coaches. All I can say to that is get over it. This is your job! I don’t always like my boss either. I can’t believe we pay them multi-millons and they get to pick their boss! Something is wrong with this picture.
Haslet called Brown into his office and asked, “Are you a pothead, Fakhir?!” Fakhir said he wasn’t.
Haslet then said, “Your play recently is pathetic. So listen, Fakhir. We’re going to let you go.” Brown broke down and was visibly upset and stated how much he loved football and he didn’t know what he was going to do with his life without playing. Haslet’s response was, “Jesus, Focker. It’s just a game. You need to focus on your family now because when you start having little Fakhir’s running around, you can’t be all emotional when they fall down and hurt themselves or couldn’t defend a cup of warm milk. No get out of here!”
Well, gotta hand it to Linecant, pulling out those deadweights, but bringing in more deadweights. I feel Ryan has great potential if he plays more. Of course if it saves the jobs of the coaching staff is still in question.
At least the Coach is trying. But letting Brown go and keeping Hill ???
And why is Corey Chavous still on the team ???
This is why we NEED NEW leadership.
IF YOU ARE GOING TO BENCH MARC BULGER WHY DON’T
THEY BEACH THE SECONARY TOO.AND TRY SOME GUY’S
ON THE SECOND SRRING. SEE WHAT THEY CAN DO.
IT CAN’T GET NO WORSE.IT SEEMS TO ME THEY
ARE PICKING THE WRONG GUY’S FOR THERE 53 MEN
ROSTER.THE GUY’S WE NEEDED ARE GONE.ONE GUY
I NEVER KNOW WHY THEY LET GO.AND HE WAS A
GOOD MIDDLE LINEBACKER LONDON FLECHER.NOW
HE’S COMING BACK HOME IN A DIFFENT JERSEY.
AFTER 1999 SUPER BOWL THEY THORE THAT TEAM
APART.SLOWEY THEY WANT DOWN HILL AFTERWARDS.
WHAY TO GO DUMMIES.
BRAD POE
fire linehan and pay bill cower whatever he wants…. at least the rams will have a defense
How about benching pisa tinoisamoa,???? What a waste of money we spent on that hapless skink. All you hear about is the other defenders and most of them deserve it but I dont Hear anything about how terrible pisa is playing ,before anybody takes offense I challenge you to keep your eye on # 50 For about ten plays and watch what a joke this guy is . He should be arrested for impersonating a football player just watch him ,I challenge you.
Bottom line is this team has NO HEART! We could sit here and talk about changes that have to be made, but the bottom line is these are men getting their manhood taken from them every week! Even the Raiders are competitive and they have a win. On offense the plays take forever to develope. By the time Bulger takes the snap he has someone in the backfield right under his chinstrap. Steven Jackson is a beast, but why is it he wants to dance in the backfield? he should be pounding the D-line, which will slow the defense down. On defense they have no clue. No pressure on the QB, and they allow it seems like 5 yards before anyone touches the running back on running plays. The secondary bottom line… no communication. I just hope it isn’t the 90’s all over again. Just don’t do it to us PLEASE!!!
So whose gonna start at Head Coach?
All things being equal the simplest answer is the right answer, and the rams answer is to send Shaw and Zygmunt out the door. They are responsible for the current state of affairs. As we all know this is a classic case of $h!t rolls down hill, and who is at the top of this hill.
Yes Linehan doesn’t exactly seem to be a master motivator, but we have all witnessed this team playing without any heart, which comes from these guys believing in themselves and believing in the guy standing next to them. These guys are professionals and paid as such. Losing sucks, but people wouldn’t be nearly as mad if they at least lost playing as hard as they could and left it all on the field.Coach could give these guys the best gameplan ever and it wouldn’t matter because there is no heart, and that starts with Shaw and Zygmunt, and it ends with these players.
Aloha,
I think two changes that needs to be made is, Get rid of the Head Coach and the Defensive Coordinator. Team lacks team identity and the defense is horrendous. Are they playing for the first over all pick in next years draft? While they are at it get rid of Jay. The Offensive Coordinator is the new man on the block and was not here for last year’s dismall season. Mahalo for allowing me to say my piece. A Ram fan from 1955
What about benching the last three number one picks…let’s be serious, the talent that has come into this team over the last THREE years has amounted to ZERO IMPACT.
When teams draft in the top half of the first round consecutively and don’t acquire any production or IMPACT players, who is to blame? The coach, the players…NO it’s the front office.
HIRE MARSHALL FAULK TO PRESIDENT OF THE TEAM…heck see if Bruce wants to come back to help…restore some pride in the team. Everyone laughs at the Lions for FINALLY getting rid of Millen, but other than 99 (When two MAJOR additions were made as FREE AGENTS) what has this front office done?
The Buffalo Bills have this one down already. I bet they score at least 30 points. Over 40 isn’t out of the question. You should’ve kept the Rams in Los Angeles…
You must have more faith in the offensive line than i do because when i see the opponent’s line in our backfield before we can get back to the line of scrimmage. i think there should be changes in our offensive line. that’s what killing our QB &running back. at least you made some changes in the defence and as for the QB possession i believe this is the only way you can protect Bugler with the line we have.
You’re right, it was a no-brainer. But you could put Grandma Moses on this defense and they would perform better than what was out there the past three weeks.
It’s Time to bring the Rams back HOME…L.A
