Long story: Chris taps into dad Howie’s know-how

Steadily, rookie defensive end Chris Long is adapting to the NFL game. “He’s really coming along,” coach Jim Haslett said. “You can see he’s not thinking, he’s just reacting now. Obviously, that’s going to help Leonard” Little on the opposite side of the line.

Long, the No. 2 overall pick in April’s draft, has a built-in advantage: His father, Howie, was an NFL defensive lineman from 1981-93 and is a Pro Football Hall of Famer.

“We talk a lot,” Chris said. “Just imagine how much a kid talks to his parent anyway about what they’re doing, and imagine if he played 13 years, he’d have some stuff to say. He’s done a good job, though, of giving me my space. We talk every day, just as father and son.”

Notes & quotes:

*RB Steven Jackson (thigh) sat out practice Wednesday, as expected, but is optimistic about his chances of playing Sunday at New England.

*LT Orlando Pace (thigh) participated fully at practice and will start Sunday, Haslett said.

*DT Adam Carriker (ankle) probably won’t even try to suit up until Friday. He’s questionable for the game.

*With Carriker sidelined, DEs James Hall and Victor Adeyanju are getting more work inside, and Eric Moore is in the mix at DE.

*A toss from Marc Bulger to Donnie Avery for a 10-yard gain late in the third quarter Sunday has been ruled a backward pass. So, Avery is credited with 10 rushing yards, and his receiving chart now is four catches for 55 yards. Bulger’s revised passing stats are 13 of 18 for 163 yards.

*S Oshiomogho Atogwe, who picked off two passes vs. the Cowboys, has 10 interceptions in the last 14 games.

*The Rams are plus-6 in turnovers since Haslett took over from Scott Linehan.

All for now . . .

Hey-I was just wondering–When the Rams had to grab people off the street (seemed like)just to cover the horrendus injury rate of 2007, The blogs and non-fans yelled we were “a garbage team” and always lost because we were just “lousy”. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, all the blogging butt-kissing and excuse makers are now HAWKING THE RAMS ONLY WIN BECAUSE WE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF AN BANGED UP WORLD CHAMPION AMERICAS TEAM AND HOW DARE US SHOW THEM NO RESPECT! Makes me want to puke! I hope we RIP THE PAPER PATS 100 TO NUTHIN AND STILL THROW DEEP WITH ONLY 1 SECOND TO GO!!!!!!

Why won’t the Rams stay with the gold pants. They look so much better than the white or the blue?
Use the white for practice and toss the blue in the trash.

With DT Carricker out the Rams DL is even lighter. It shows the versitility of DE Hall and Adeyanju who can fill in at DT. The DL must be agressive and get into the New England backfield on run plays. New England will definitely try to run on the Rams. S Atogwe and CB Bartell are Pro Bowlers. I’ve been skeptical of the Patriots since spy gate came out. We owe them for Super Bowl XXXVI. GO RAMS!!!!!

Bruce, I hear that… I’ve been saying that for a while now. (I also have a theory: Rams had the old Blue and Yellow uniforms, they went to the Super Bowl. They immediately after to darker blue and gold, and, well, we’ve all seen what’s happened since. Coincidence?)

I DON’T CARE WHAT THE NFL SAID ABOUT NEW ENGLAND DIDN’T
USE SPYGATE IN THAT SUPPER BOWL TO BEAT THE RAMS.
BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW THAT THEY DID.IF YOU WATCH THAT
GAME THEY KNOW EVERY PLAY WE DID.THE RAMS CHANGE THERE
PLAYS IN THE 4 QUARTER.THE RAMS STARTED GETTING THE
TOUCH DOWNS BUT IT WAS TO LATE.KNOW TELL ME IF THAT
DIDN’T SEEM ADD TO YOU.NEW ENGLAND NEEDS TO HAND THAT
TROPHY TO THE RAMS.BECAUSE THEY KNOW THEY CHEATED.

With the older linebackers and defencive linmen would’t it be a good idea it run a no huddle to keep those old guys on the field and tire them out, and slow down the pass rush.
