Derek Stanley was determined not to count any chickens this week. Even though the coaches had hinted to him that his promotion from the practice squad was imminent, Stanley waited to celebrate until after he received word officially. That came Friday morning.

Stanley, a wide receiver and retuner, was added to the 53-man active roster and figures to suit up Sunday, when the Rams meet the Redskins in Washington.

“It’s exciting, especially where we are now” at 0-4, Stanley said. “I want to be able to help. I feel like I can give the team maybe a little bit of a spark.”

Stanley, a product of Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater, played in three games last year as a rookie. He didn’t catch a pass, but he averaged a solid 25.5 yards on 20 kickoff returns. He vowed to be ready for whatever the Rams ask of him.

“I’m always prepared,” he said. “I’m definitely ready to go.”

Notes & quotes:

*The angiogram WR Dane Looker had Thursday to determine whether he has an aneurysm in his brain was inconclusive, Looker reported. More tests are possible, he said. Looker won’t suit up again until a diagnosis is made.

*Not sure what this means, but the defense intercepted a ton of passes in practice this week. There were at least a half-dozen picks on Friday alone.

*WR Torry Holt is quickly becoming a strong Jim Haslett supporter. “What I like is that he’s trying to get to know everybody,” Holt said. “He’s speaking to everybody, offensively and defensively, and I think that’s good. I think guys should have a relationship with their head coach, and he’s definitely trying to take care of that part.”

All for now . . . more Sunday.
