Count Jackson out for Sunday’s game
Barring a sudden and highly unexpected change in Jim Haslett’s original stance, count RB Steven Jackson out for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets. And don’t be surprised if Jackson’s strained thigh muscle keeps him sidelined for another week or two.
After Jackson’s aborted attempt to play last Sunday vs. Arizona, Haslett insisted that Jackson be able to put in a full practice this week before he’d clear him for the Jets game. Jackson did nothing at practice Wednesday or Thursday, and he isn’t on the field this morning at Rams Park.
So, the RB duties go to newcomers Kenneth Darby and Samkon Gado, with Antonio Pittman (hamstring) a possibility for the rotation. Pittman did some work Thursday and Friday. Travis Minor (concussion) isn’t expected to be cleared until next week.
All for now . . . more after practice.
Post-practice update: Haslett confirmed that Jackson will not play. He said that Pittman will play, but Darby will be the starter.

I’ve never liked big, tall upright running backs. They always seem to get hurt (think Eddie George). I’d like the Rams to look at drafting a smaller power runner for next season and a legit fullback. Jackson looks good on Sports Center and Video Game commercials, but I don’t think he will ever carry a team. We need a workhorse that can close out games.
I agree. When the guy is healthy, he is pretty darn good, but keeping him healthy is the problem. It’s hard to rely on Jackson as the backbone of our run offense when he is iffy all the time.
Yea Navy Blue,
Those tall upright running backs always seem to get hurt. Except that they also make up some of the greatest runner in history. Just two examples are Dickerson and Allen. Have a little prospective in your comments.
I’m going to have to disagree with you West Coast Ram. The game is always changing, and the type of player changes, too. You may not believe in evolving, and maybe your knuckles are still scraping the ground, but the game has changed despite your outdated, backwards notions.
Darby will excel this weekend.
So, when he does come back he will be out of football shape again. Even if he is ready next week, it will take two weeks extra for him to get back in game shape like the beginning of the year. He was doing so well, its a shame he got hurt.
“prospective” ???
The Rams should sit Steven Jackson for the rest of the season, just to prove a point that he is a whiny B%^&*. This guy is trash and always has been. Sure it was easy to be the number 3 back in the league a few years back, when every play from scrimmage was handed to him, which still didn’t change the fact the he couldn’t find the endzone. LONG LIVE MARSHALL.
So S-Jax is going to be out a total of a month because he tweaked his quad- whatever happened to the NFL being a tough guys sport. Troy P from Pittsburgh is correct in saying it’s becoming a “wimpy” sport.
If he can run then he should play even if it’s at 50-60%. You’re paid to play.
Obviously commentor “Steven_Sucks” has some kind of agenda here. A guy gets injured and suddenly he needs to be traded? If Steven injured himself wakeboarding or some other lame ass “sport” everything would’ve been just fine.
So he’s trash huh? This is a new day in this country. We have a new president, a new force of change. We need to step away from the politics of Jackson hate and move on with providing free gas and mortgages for all!
you need some perspective mr. west coast ram fan. dickerson and allen were rarley hurt during their time in the nfl. jackson has missed numerous games every year hes been in the league. you can’t be a franchise back when you can’t stay on the field
