All signs point to Frazier or Spagnuolo for St. Louis Rams

There’s no doubt that Minnesota’s Leslie Frazier and the New York Giants Steve Spagnuolo were the stars of the Rams’ finalist interviews this week in Los Angeles, multiple sources _ including team sources _ have told the Post-Dispatch.

As of Friday morning, it appeared that Frazier, the Vikings assistant head coach-defensive coordinator, is choice No. 1.

But Spagnuolo, the Giants’ defensive coordinator is a strong 1A, interviewed very well, and the team would be enthusiastic about hiring him as well.

So the only thing that would prevent the Rams from reaching a decision in the next 24 hours would be if the team decided to wait on Rex Ryan, the Baltimore assistant head coach-defensive coordinator. Ryan’s Ravens are still in the playoffs, and he can’t be hired until Baltimore is eliminated.

Ryan’s preliminary interview went well last Sunday in Baltimore. But if the Rams decided to wait on Ryan and the Ravens lost the AFC championship game to Pittsburgh, he would still have to meet Rams ownership before a decision was made.

And with team ownership and management so high on Frazier and Spagnuolo, there’s probably no reason to wait on Ryan.

Vikings pass defense ranks 17th, and the defense as a whole managed to put together 1002 penalty yards during the regular season. NO OTHER TEAM even got to 900! And this is the guy they want leading this team? This has to be a joke.
And sure, what reason would ownership have to wait on Ryan? He’s only been leading the league’s dominant defense for the last few years, no need to drag your feet for that guy.
I guess it’s going to be Frazier, being as once Spagnuolo gets word of being “1A” behind Frazier, he’ll probably just pull himself out of the running.
This screams of “We can afford this guy…”

Please, you are kidding, right? Who do you want to see? In my mind, these are the two best, attainable, coaching candidates the Rams can get. Both have been involved with winning programs, exposed to winning coaches, and seem to have the respect of their players.

Great problem, anyone who thinks that either one would not be an upgrade, needs to rembember our 5-27 record the last two years.Great job Billy

It is impossible to know how any coordinator will succeed as a head coach until he does it. I am happy to see that the Rams are starting fresh with new eyes. With a solid draft and a few free agent signings the Rams will be competive again. If Ryan is the best choice then PLEASE wait. If he is not, then get it done so the new H.C. can get started. RAAAAMMMMMS!!!!

Fraizer knows what hes doing. The Vikings made the playoffs, and only lost because there qb got hurt.

At least Spagnuolo was considered good enough to spend many years with the same professional team (Phil.). If this is another bad year I am boycotting the beer venders again!

So why haven’t they hired Frazier or Spags ??? Are they sleeping on it……are they waiting to here from Mom from the afterlife…..do all they have laying around is a two headed coin ??? Or are these penny pinching, movie making wannabes, football owner “neophytes” waiting due to the plans of the great creator….John Shaw….who has done more pandering to the powers that be than Haslett ever did. This isn’t class, this is Corporate America where every single little nuance has been weighed and considered, make no mistake they are thinking about “the long term future” implications….i.e…..the bottom line. (and that ain’t on the playing field folks)
