While the Rams were interviewing Minnesota assistant head coach-defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier on Tuesday in Los Angeles for their head-coaching job, Rams coach Jim Haslett was finishing up an interview in Green Bay.

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, who once worked for Haslett in New Orleans, is looking for a new defensive coordinator _ and Haslett is a candidate. Haslett arrived in Green Bay on Monday evening and had dinner with McCarthy and members of his staff. Haslett met further with McCarthy on Tuesday before heading back to St. Louis.

McCarthy was Haslett’s offensive coordinator from 2000-2004 in New Orleans while Haslett was Saints head coach. Haslett could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Does it bother anyone that all these interviews are happening in LA? Granted, I would rather be in LA than STL at this time of year, but the last time I checked, the team resides in STL. Does this mean Shaw is more involved in the process than we all think?

I think the people who want Haslet to coach the Rams are the same folks who still want Whitey Herzog to return to the Cardinals. Let’s move on. The Rams lost 10 games in a row under Haslet’s watch and played horrible defense in every season he was DC here. We need a fresh start and I believe all the finalists with the exception of Garrett are well qualified. However, the bottom line for a HC is how well he can motivate his troops and how many wins he ends up with. Whoever ends up HC, I will demand that his team plays with more fire, more sustained effort, more smarts and beats the hell out of their opponent every week. All the playoff games this year demonstrated how the game should be played. Go Rams in 09!

We all saw Haslett work in New Orleans. Only one playoff appearance. Probably why no one is calling to interview him for a head coaching job these past few years.

As a PSL holder from the beginning, I’m touched that Haslett could “unify the building” with his 2-10 performance. Perhaps he could make it to 5-11 next year and they’ll name the building for him. Funny thing, though. I bought PSL’s to watch professional football, not building unification. The fact that Haslett is the only Rams’ coaching finalist who is interviewing elsewhere for a coordinator job speaks volumes about how he is viewed in his profession: liked, but not respected as a head coach. Why else hasn’t he been courted for any of the many other head-coach vacancies this year?

All you clowns who think keeping Haslett is the best thing the Rams can do just need to look at one stat. His record as a head coach is 45-61…his best season was his first with the Saints, at 10-6…all downhill from there.
