St. Louis Rams hire Williams as pro personnel director
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
The Rams haven’t had a director of pro scouting since Mike Ackerley in 2000. But they have one now. Mike Williams has been hired as the team’s new director of pro personnel. Williams comes to the Rams from the San Francisco 49ers, where he has been assistant director of pro personnel since 2005.
Williams was interviewed by general manager Billy Devaney in the midst of the Rams’ head-coaching search earlier this month. Williams starts Friday with the Rams and will immediately jump into the evaluation of prospective free agents.

More new blood. I like it.
Ah yes, Mike Ackerley, the first victim of Martz’s power grab. Armey would be the next victim and the Rams haven’t been able to find good football players since.
Hopefully Mike Williams can bring something positive to the party.
I thinks its great to finally hire someone for this position but I’m not sure of the wisdom for hiring someone from the 40 whiners staff. Seeing how they don’t have the greatest talent on that club as well,is this the best we could do?
Good move for the Rams. Mr. It, I wouldn’t say that Mike Ackerley was a victim. Friend of mine knows the family and they simply preferred the Tennessee area.

Ditto what he said!
But,he cant do much worst than the clowns before him, lately
Mike Williams is a great choice for the Rams. He will be looking for players that have character, as well as talent. Great Concept!!! He and his family are a class act and will raise the bar in St. Louis. Let’s support him and the new coaching staff…. it is a new day and things are looking up.
Isn’t this the guy who wasted 49ers ‘05 pick on Alex Smith?
Good hire. Every key position they’ve hired HC, OC, DC, are all first timers in their new jobs but they brought experience to the most under rated guy on the team, the man making decisions about what kind of talent the coaches have to work with. Every coach knows grea players can make you look like a genious while dogs will make you look like an idiot.
I have read no comment on the mid to late-season acquisition of a number of players. Checking the roster, there are at least 12 new faces, many of whom have played in the second half of the season, and some of whom may have been at least partly resposible for the visible toughening of the team toward the end of the season.
So lets welcome Travis Brown, Antwon Burton, Quincy Butler, Kenneth Darby, Anthony Davis, Daniel Fells, Joel Filani, Jason Craft, Larry Grant, Nate Jones, David Roach and Cory Withrow. I think Mike Williams’ job may be already partly done! With the early draft picks we should be able to put together a respectable team for 2009.
