Jason Garrett, the assistant head coach-offensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys, is the so-called “mystery” candidate in the Rams’ head-coaching search, league sources told the Post-Dispatch on Monday. Barring an unexpected complication, Garrett will interview Wednesday in Los Angeles as one of the Ram’s finalist interviews.

According to league sources, the Rams have settled in on five finalists: current Rams coach Jim Haslett already has taken part in his finalist interview last week in L.A.; Minnesota assistant head coach-defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier is scheduled to interview there Tuesday; and it has now been confirmed that Steve Spagnuolo of the New York Giants will interview in Los Angeles on Thursday. (The Giants have granted St. Louis permission to speak to Spagnulo.)

The fifth finalist is Baltimore assistant head coach-defensive coordinator Rex Ryan. The only reason why Ryan was interviewed in Baltimore Sunday instead of in Los Angeles is because the Ravens are still alive in the NFL playoffs. Whether the Rams can afford to wait on Ryan, particularly if the Ravens win Sunday, remains to be seen.

You have to be kidding me with the choices, billy are you bringing in Spags because he is your friend? How does Fassel not deserve a final interview, he has to most succesful resume of anyone you have interviewed. This will be Scott Linehan all over again. 3 years and we will have another HC midway through the season. Learn from your mistakes. Rex Ryan cant bring his players with him, spags did nothing this year and looked clueless when the eagles scored on a playaction pass for TD and Frazier has done nothing with the vikings, he is not the next tomlin and dont forget, tomlin got a great team with Pitt. Jason garret was not all that great this year with the dallas offense, look at the players he had and didnt make the playoffs. come up with better options than this. Fasel makes the most sense with his experience and leadership that has been proven.

If Garrett has to worry about keeping any ONE player happy, then why would we want him?????

Let’s face it, we want to win the Super Bowl. 9 of the past 11 Super Bowl winning Head Coaches have been by coaches on their second tour of duty as Head Coaches. And Fassel is the only one to have at least been to a Super Bowl. Everyone is missing the boat on Fassel. We need a proven winner and someone the players will instantly respect. Devaney will make the right decision.

If that’s the extent of the Rams’ list, they might as well mail next season in now. Maybe this is paving the way for a move back to LA. Hire a young coach for peanuts knowing he’s going to get fired when they get to LA anyway. Otherwise the Rams’ history of incompetence shows no signs of abating.

To Dave; I wish your comment made sense. We’re talking about T.O. here, nobody can keep him happy and he’ll destroy a team if he gets out of pocket. As far as the coaching candidates go…. Rex Ryan is a gonner to the NY Jets as soon as Pitt boots the Ravens from the playoffs. There was talk before the season that Coughlin would consider retirement at the end of this year… if he does then Spags isn’t going anywhere. Detroit looks to be going after Schwartz, which I don’t know why a team would want him. I like blitzers and that guy hardly blitzes. Frazier has been pretty good with the Viks on D but they have tremendous talent on that side of the ball. He’s in the mold of a Dungy/L.Smith… He would be a good grab but then you’d have to consider who he would bring in as OC. Fassel is a good choice but what would he do with the defense and he’s not exactly the sexy candidate that fans want in there. Everyone keeps saying that Garrett under achieved with the Dallas O but we had our problems this year with injuries - losing Romo for a few games, Barber towards the end, and the OL was banged up all season. Consider all of that and we still finished 13th overall on O.

I can’t imagine Jim Hasslett being a head coach anywhere in the NFL. Who would want him? Can you imagine the New England Patriots, or Pittsburgh Steelers pursuing him as their new HC in the future? Why should the Rams feel they’re stuck with him, and can’t do any better? If he’s hired, then I think it will finish off the sinking St. Louis Rams.

Lets face it,who ever the coach is he needs some better players!!! I like the idea of Haz coming back with Martz as the off. cord. Bottom line is… both sides of the ball need about 3 players.

Ryan or spag. If ryan gets his team to the super bowl it should be a sign of his talent. So he would be worth the wait. If not I like SPag to take control of this team and fix this offense. It all has to start with a lineman cause Bulger is lucky to still be playing after the number of times he got hit and his line let him down. NO HASLETT!!!!!!!
