St. Louis Rams talk to Shurmur, Flajole
MOBILE, Ala. _ Rams general manager Billy Devaney confirmed late Tuesday afternoon that the team has talked to Pat Shurmur and Ken Flajole about staff positions on new coach Steve Spagnuolo’s staff.
Shurmur, who is quarterbacks coach at Philadelphia, is being considered for the offensive coordinator position. Flajole, linebackers coach for the Carolina Panthers, is being considered for the defensive coordinator position.
Devaney said neither candidate is in Mobile, Ala., for the Senior Bowl. Devaney also added that the Rams were “a long way away” from naming their coordinators. Devaney and Spagnuolo arrived in Mobile around noon and almost immediately were holed up in the team hotel interviewing staff candidates.
Like Spagnulo, Shurmur was part of Andy Reid’s original Eagles staff in 1999, and they worked together for eight years until Spagnuolo left following the 2006 season to become defensive coordinator for the New York Giants.
Flajole was part of Bob Stull’s original staff at the University of Missouri in 1989, a staff that included Reid.
Reached earlier Tuesday, Shurmur said he couldn’t talk yet.

I’m confused. We already have a top-notch offensive coordinator. Getting rid of Al Saunders and Henry Ellard (WR coach) would be a big mistake. I know the offense was awful and at times Saunders had some questionable playcalling, but he has a proven track record and he needs to be allowed to continue.
Danny, you say your confused, you must be…..this team went 2 - 14 last season and its time for a new era, just like getting one of the best coaches available to take over and thats why we need a new offense and defensive coordinators.
Both the offense and defense stunk it up the entire year, and its time to tear down the walls and start all over IMO.
One of these days the fans of this team are going to realize that it starts with the offensive line.We have a aging left tackle,a overpayed/undersized left guard,a knuckle head center, and another first round bust at right tackle. The front office goes out and builds a team with quality at the skill positions and thinks it can win with a bunch of stiffs on the lines. It equates to buying a Porsche and then when iit comes to the tires you go shopping at Pep Boys.
Well I guess I won’t be purchasing tires at Pep Boys. People need to understand that this team is going through a rebuilding process. That means starting all over because what has been tried has failed. New head coach and staff. New offensive system and possibly some new personnel to run it. Same for the defense. Spags is going to run the football 1st and pass second. No more Air Martz. So don’t get your hopes up too high. This isn’t going to happen overnight. It may very well take a couple of years. Hopefully we won’t be watching the Rams getting their asses kicked by 30 points anymore. Lets just hope for some good competetive football and close games. This team is going to have to learn how to win all over again. Fans shouldn’t expect anymore than that.
David Carriger, What is wrong with Brett Romberg? I mean, I know he comes from ” THE U ” but I’ve never heard anything bad about him.
Our new head coach will pick coordinators of his own. Saunders didn’t seem to do much that worked. It was a tough road to hoe with the O line we have and Jackson out for what? camp and 4 games? Good luck coach! I’m excited and want to get on with the housecleaning and rebuilding here.
