St. Louis Rams GM Devaney briefs media on free agency
General manager Billy Devaney came down from the second floor at Rams Park to provide a Day 1 briefing on free agency. Some highlights:
* On the visits by center Jason Brown (Baltimore) and strong safety James Butler (New York Giants): “We still have James Butler in the building and Jason Brown. Talks are continuing. Jason Brown’s agents were over here for a couple of hours this afternoon. We’re taking a break. We’re going to meet again later on tonight. I guess the best way to say it is talks are ongoing. I don’t know how you categorize it, if it’s encouraging, hopeful, but they’re moving forward. Hopefully we can work something out tonight or tomorrow morning before he’s scheduled to leave. I’m talking about Jason. With James, we just started talking.”
* On cornerback Ron Bartell: “Ron Bartell is in New Orleans; we’ve been in communication with him all through today. I would say the same thing; talks are still going on with Ron, and we expect to talk with his people later on tonight after he finishes his visit with New Orleans. . . .We’ve been talking now for a couple of weeks. And it’s been a slower process. . . .With Bartell we would’ve been better off to do something this past summer. That being said, we’re kind of making progress with Ron also.”
* On the futures of Torry Holt and Orlando Pace in St. Louis: “I don’t know. It’s to be determined.”

C’mon Thomas can’t you see Brown is playing us? Like he’s soooo in love with the Rams and he has to be here. He’s using us to get a better offer than the $6mil he’s already gotten from the Ravens.
Don’t use words like “imminent” when they don’t fit. Likely to happen without delay??? Doesn’t look that way.
i wouldn’t get your hopes up. brown’s agent, harold lewis plays everyone. he said thata deal for the ravens with brown or (bart) scott(he represents both of them)was imminent. now scott’s with the jets and brown is one of the most wanted players in football, likely to sign with the rams, dolphins, or any other team willing to pay a center like a guard.
What about long-term OJ Atogwe signing? (I realize the post was about free agents, but I haven’t heard anything lately regarding OJ)
Brown isn’t being considered by the dolphins. The Dolphins can’t afford him. They are looking for someone that will work for less money.
Jason is going to Washington….book it.
Some of you are very pesemistic. I see this different, if he is still talking to the Rams then there is hope. We have him in the house, be patient.
If it was going to happen it would have by now. I can see them signing Butler but they blew it with Bartell and, like DanMcG, Brown is playing us to score a big contract with a better team.

Brown has agreed to a five year deal apparently so quit with the pessimism
It been reported by ESPN that we signed Broown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
