Brian Stewart, who spent the past two seasons as defensive coordinator in Dallas, interviewed Thursday for a defensive backs position with the Rams. More specifically, cornerbacks coach, according to league sources.

The Cowboys finished eighth in the NFL in total defense this season, and ninth in total defense in 2007 under Stewart. Nonetheless, he was dismissed at the end of this season in a staff shakeup after the underacheiving Cowboys failed to make the playoffs.

Stewart, 44, has a background coaching the secondary. He was defensive backs coach for the San Diego Chargers for three seasons (2004-06) and broke into NFL coaching as assistant secondary coach with the Houston Texans (2002-03). Earlier in his career, Stewart had two stints as an assistant at the University of Missouri _ in 1999 and 2000, and in 1996.

Wouldnt mind that hiring at all. He did well managing an entire Defense last season obviously I think he would be great with less responsibilities and he could focus on one position. Great job Spags

Really hope they hire coach Stu. I played for him at Mizzou and he was a great coach. Also think he did a good job in Dallas. Bring in Stu, the DBs will play much better.

Hard for the DBs (especially safeties) not to play better. Sounds like a good hire.

The cowboys need to fire Jerry Jones, or at least sideline his input. Stewart was doing a great job, at about game three or four their defense was touted as possibly the best in the league. Jerry is ruining the team by making so many changes all the time, give the team and the staff time to gel and lets go out and play football.
