Could St. Louis Rams’ Holt be jetting to NY?

Reports out of New York indicate that the Jets might be interested in acquiring wide receiver Torry Holt, who has requested -– but not yet been granted — his release from the Rams. Not coincidentally, former Rams receivers coach Henry Ellard recently was hired for the same position with the Jets. They’re seeking to replace Laveranues Coles, who signed with the Bengals as a free agent.

Here’s what Jets beat writer Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News blogged Monday:

“Based on what I’m hearing, I’d be surprised if (they Jets) don’t pursue Holt. Yes, Holt’s age is up (33 in June) and his numbers were down (64 catches, 796 yards, three touchdowns), but he became a possession receiver last season because of the Rams’ inability to protect the passer. He might not be an elite receiver anymore, but he still has enough in the tank to draw respect from a defense. He’s a prideful professional and the change of scenery will do wonders for him.”

The Rams would prefer to trade Holt and probably wouldn’t release him until or slightly before March 17, when he is due a $1.25 million roster bonus.

All for now. . .

A 4th round? I’ll take that..before losing Torry for nothing…It’s a shame that we can’t keep him…

So the beat writer is saying he’d be surprised if the Jets pursued Holt and the heading of the article implies the Jets interest? Please clarify

At this time whatever we can get for Torry would be a bonus. Bad part is everybody in the league knows we have to release him because we need the cap room for rookies and whatever else we can do in FA.

I hate to see him go because he has great character, good in the community and a great RAM.

If the Jets sign Holt, does Favre stay retired?

If they can get a deal like Green Bay last year with escalators based on performance… That would be great…

Also see this on The redzone..
“Terry McCormick of Nashville City Paper reports the Titans my make a run at Torry Holt if (when?) he is released by the St. Louis Rams. At 32, Holt is nearly four years younger than Owens, and is the type of smart upgrade the Titans have tried to make when looking to add to experience to a position. Holt is due a roster bonus on March 17, which could precipitate his release. Would the Titans be willing to part with a late-round pick to land him before he gets to the open market?”

Yes, so you better cough it out now before it’s too late..Holt is a hot commodity right now…

I hate the thought of Torry in another uniform…at least in NY though, he would get a little more media attention that he so richly deserves. He has been an incredible class act during his career in St Louis. Thank you Torry! Go Rams!

I went to the the blog and it states that he would be surprised if the Jets don’t pursue Holt. I guess the word don’t fell off the page in translation.
I hope the Rams keep Holt as we need one veteran reciever on the team.

It will be criminal for this incredible talent and class act not finish his career with the RAMS. He has done nothing but keep his mouth shut, run routes, catch balls, and score TD’s since he has been here. if traded or released we will have no one at WR with more than 2 years of exp. Honor him with his contract, and let him know with protection of the QB he is still in the Rams plans as a first option. Do not let him go, and make sure he knows we are not as good with out him
