Devaney on 1380 AM: Barron at LT, Bell at RT … for now
Rams general manager Billy Devaney was interviewed by KSLG (1380 AM) today after the team released Orlando Pace. Highlights of the conversation:
* Alex Barron will be moved from right tackle to left tackle immediately.
* Rams will take a long look at Jacob Bell, last season’s starting left guard, as the right tackle. Such a move would open a starting spot at LG for John Greco.
* Asked if Bell is big enough to play right tackle, Devaney replied: “We hope so.”
* Pace’s release does not mean the team will zero in on an offensive tackle with the No. 2 overall draft pick. “We have a lot of holes and we still have the luxury of being able to pick the highest-rated player at No. 2.”
* On Torry Holt: “We’re in a holding pattern. But we will have to make a decision in a couple of days regarding Torry.”
* Asked if there was any trade interest in Holt, Devaney said: “Torry is still on our roster. I’d rather not talk about the specific interest.”
* Rams have “strong interest” in signing Gus Frerotte as the backup quarterback. Devaney noted that Frerotte was 8-2 as a starter for Minnesota and knows the terminology of the team’s new offense.
* Bottom line on Pace’s release: “We’re at the point now where we just think we’re laying the foundation going forward. It was the right time.”

I really hope the rams dont go with a T with their 2nd pick. There is a lot of depth at that position.Linebackers arent a must in Spagz system so I think the glaring hole that we would have to fill would be at WR.
Nice Job Devaney!
I think Curry is the BPA.
i also think the rams should take curry with their first pick. witherspoon will be much more dangerous for our defense if moved to the outside. tinoisamoa is a solid olb also. in the second round i say we draft an OT and then maybe steal a WR in the third round such as maclin if he is still on the board.
I’m thinking Holt to the Cowboys for a 2nd-rounder. Think they’d go for that?
No, to answer the Dallas question.
Agreed Curry is the pick. Our LB corps hasn’t had a true leader since London left…Curry would solidify that for some time to come, and could make more of an impact right away than a T. I figured Barron would move over, but thought Greco would be a better RT? …and Shueing at gruard. Can anyone fill me in here? 2nd Round I’d go with WR, DT, or T. Britt and ?Heyward-bay? seem interesting to fill the WR role, but wouldn’t rule our a DT if one slips…say Jerry from Miss (dreaming). Other prospects of interest: Moala DT, Robierski WR, Boone OT, Watkins OT, Vaughn SS, Goodson RB, Lane FB. I think there good late round talent at RB, Ringer Mich S. and T. Sutton from NWestern are interesting prospects with catching ability.
It’s gotta be Curry….which would give the Rams a very good young D. Drafting a WR with the #2 pick is just too risky. Just ask the Lions. Go with the can’t miss….Curry….who reminds some of London Fletcher.
Maclin in the third round? And I’m guessing Raji in the fourth? And maybe, just maybe, Laurinitis in the fifth. Very believable saints 21.
why am i not crying that pace is gone ?yes he WAS great but dont forget he held out more than once even though he was making BIG bucks, then he sucked about 12 million dollars out of this organization over a 2 year span while playing a grand total of 3 games those two years before his last season with us and then missed three more games. he and holt must go! you watch, we will be a better team through all this and i mean immediately.
