Does Weaver fit in St. Louis Rams’ plans at FB?
It remains to be seen if the St. Louis Rams will make a run at Seattle fullback Leonard Weaver. But Weaver is taking a patient approach, waiting for the market to develop rather than taking trips just to take trips.
To wit, Weaver nearly made a free-agent visit to New Orleans but decided against it at the last minute. There are some at Rams Park who really like Weaver, and what he can do as both a lead blocker and occasional ball carrier/pass catcher. Others in the building prefer a “classic” fullback who’s a leader blocker only. Weaver has yet to make any trips and some league observers feel he could eventually end up re-signing with the Seahawks.
Other fullbacks still available on the free agent market include Heath Evans (New England) and Terrelle Smith (Arizona).

I want the Rams to sign a fullback who is a great run blocker. The ability to catch the ball is nice, but I view it as more of a bonus.
The ability to catch the ball would be another weapon to use against apposing defenses.
Weaver is a fantastic fullback and I love the idea of the Rams getting Steven Jackson a quality fullback, Jason Brown, and the best left tackle in the draft with the #1 pick… Book Steven’s trip to Hawaii and a chance at 2000 yards.
But I really like the idea of stealing Weaver from Seattle and adding his versatility. Also, how could anyone argue that the Rams need a one dimensional full back opposed to the multi-talented Weaver??? That old school antiquated thinking blows my mind??? Lets just run up the middle 3 times…
richard roy
agreed, especially about stealing from seattle
i hate houshmanzadeh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Couldn’t agree more richardroy. Have wanted Weaver from the beginning of FA - a subtraction from Seattle and a plus for us. Also, the more skills he has the harder to read what the offense is going to do.
I think he would be scared of Bartell after that hit last year.
GET R DUN…
If Pat Shurmur runs some form of West Coast Offense, maybe Weaver is the guy. Not what I originally had in mind, but, then, neither was hiring Pat Shurmur. Weakening Seattle, even a little, also would be good.
Why not make Alex Barron a backup TE and fullback? He’s fast enough, and the less snaps he gets during games, the less false starts he has to slow down our drives. Or we could go back in time and steal Larry Centers in his prime!
I wonder what kind of hand barron does have? he ran like a 4.8 40 at the combine
