Only Jackson missing at Day 1 of St. Louis Rams offseason program
Pro Bowl running back Steven Jackson was the only player missing Monday as the St. Louis Rams began their offseason conditioning program. There was nothing mysterious about Jackson’s absence; coach Steve Spagnuolo said Jackson had some family matters to attend to before re-joining his teammates at Rams Park.
Technically, the offseason program of weightlifting and conditioning drills is voluntary. Only players under contract are allowed to participate. Spagnuolo said wide receiver Derek Stanley, who remains in the rehab process following a late-season knee injury, was the only player coming off a 2008 injury who did not participate in Monday’s session.
The Rams are just 17 days away from their first minicamp practices under Spagnuolo. As a new head coach, Spagnuolo is allowed to have three minicamps instead of the normal two.

JACKSON - GET TO CAMP… Don’t be a baby again this year and skip the off-season and get hurt all year… I don’t miss Pace being a holdout year-after-year…
Shut it John, I’m sure Jackson will show up, he has nothing to be mad about this year, he’s gotta new fullback, but if Spags said he has family things to take care of, I believe it! Family comes first! Go Rams!
Kiko is very mad at johns antics!!! Steven jackson will be here no doubt what reason does he have not to?
HE IS LAZY AND TAKING ADVANTAGE OF HIS SUPPOSED ELITE STATUS. IF HE WOULD HAVE GOT HIS LAZY BUTT IN CAMP YEAR AND BE LEADER THINGS MIGHT BE DIFFERENT DONT PAY THAT BIG STUD WHO HAS WON US ALL THE GAMES
Here we go again…
Ok, hes being lazy because he has family matters to attend to? What if his mom is sick and dying god forbid. You never know so dont go complaining, its one day of workouts. All theyre doing is getting the playbooks, doing some weightlifting and a little talking
It’s clear that the Rams will have a run-oriented offense, given the signing of Brown and Karney, and what seems to be a lessened concern about protecting Bulger’s blind side when passing (Barron to left tackle). Everything about the Rams’ off-season, in fact, should please Jackson, so I must imagine this is exactly what Spagnuolo says it is — nothing mysterious.
Again, welcome back, Mr. Thomas.
It is kind of funny that the most important player on the team is the ONLY one who didn’t show up the first day of OCA’s…
trade him, or better yet cut the loser
If Jackson’s absence doesn’t bother the coach, why should it make any difference whether it bothers any of you ?
