The Rams’ 2009 preseason has a new look to it in terms of opponents. The Rams open exhibition play on the road with their first-ever preseason game against the New York Jets. A home game with Atlanta and a road game at Cincinnati follow. The Rams have played the Falcons and Bengals each only once previously in preseason play.

But there’s a familiar foe to close out the preseason: Kansas City comes to town on Thursday, Sept. 3 for the almost-annual Governor’s Cup game. It will mark the 20th time the Rams have played the Chiefs in preseason play, with 12 of thosen meetings coming since the Rams moved to St. Louis in 1995

This preseason marks only the third time in the 15 seasons the Rams have been in St. Louis that the Rams will play neither Oakland or San Diego in exhibition play.

The exact dates of the first three games are to be decided, but they will be played sometime from Thursday through Monday of each preseason week. Here’s the schedule:

_ Week 1: at New York Jets (Aug. 13-15).

_  Week 2: Atlanta (Aug. 20-24)

_ Week 3: at Cincinnati (Aug. 27-29)

_ Week 4: Kansas City (Sept. 3)

And season ticket holders pay for these games! I for one would rather have an 18 game season and 2 exhibition — oops, preseason — games; at least the season ticket money would be better spent.

I agree: WHO CARES!!!

We need a couple of games to tune up. Maybe only 2 quarters each. Don’t get anybody hurt. Plus who is going to show their season game plan in preseason??? They’re dumbed down plays anyway. Woohoo. About as exciting as the Pro Bowl. At least Season ticket holders don’t have to pay for the Pro Bowl. Wonder what kind of attendance they would get if they didn’t make the Season ticket holders buy the pre-season games?

I do care…anything will be good and I can’t wait…This non-football period is so boring…Drafting time like a tease and then a long 3 months with no activity …Im going nut….Preseason is GOOD…and I can’t wait!!!

Why the negative entries? This is a good pre-season for Spags to work with a rebuilt team, and install the offensive.defensive.special team philosophy. 16 regular season games is enough. I can understand season ticket holders being upset about 4 preseason games. I bet the negative comments are from non-season ticket holders. As a former PSL owner (Sold when we moved out of the country for 5 years), we didn’t like to pay for preseason games either, and this was before they won the Super Bowl, but this is life in the NFL. If the Rams are ever to be perennial winners, this would be a non-issue.
