St. Louis Rams release veteran TE Anthony Becht
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
The new regime at Rams Park continued to tweak its roster with the release today of veteran tight end Anthony Becht. A nine-year NFL veteran, Becht spent just one season with the Rams and was used mostly as a blocker. He played in all 16 games, with 11 starts. Becht caught six passes for 39 yards.
All for now . . .

look for rams to add bajema sometime soon…also possibly to pick up a blocking TE in draft…i would rather see rams go with veteran at blocking TE than rookie if you ask me…position too important in the trenches to depend heavily on a rookie…
I would have thought looking at the tight ends i see joe klopfenstein leaving before anthony becht c’mon now keep fells and mcmicheal
I have been wondering about what this coaching staff might do with Klopfenstein. It could be posible they will keep him at TE or will they look at him as a WR in the crossing pattern. He is 6′5″ and 262 lbs.; a good size for someone over the middle of the field. He has always been able to catch the ball, he just is no good at blocking; he could end up being very useful.
How will history recall the Anthony Becht Era with the Rams?
Unless he improves an awful lot, Joe Clodhopper won’t make through camp . I like Daniel Fells and Randy McMichael is a very good TE if he would have a little bit better luck with his health. Maybe it’s age, I don’t know how old he is.
Any chance of drafting Chase Coffman in round 3 (once thought of as a 1st rounder before being injured) to take care of our need for a bigger, possession WR with the ability to groom him as a true TE under McMichael? I think he has a chance to be good — WAY better than the guy we just released a couple of weeks ago…. Bennett!
The Klopper at big WR–Intriguing considering our skinny WR crew. You almost need a big WR when your other guys are not very physical. I saw Avery just get blocked into the ground right off the line on a few plays. Someone needs to keep the other team honest on that kind of stuff. Even T.O. was having trouble getting off the line in Dallas, and that was part of the reason they went away from him, that and their TE(Witten) has excellent hands. Is Klop a pretty good receiver, I can only remember a few catches??? I believe Coffman will slip but only to mid 2nd. Too much potential. But, I am still high on Avery and Burton. One more solid WR would rock though.
Yeah, that’s really the TE we needed to release, a quality blocking TE who does his job. Wow! Let’s not release Joe McFlopenstein! And I want to read that we are talking with Orlando Pace about resigning!
The Klops actually has very good hands and could indeed become a versatile weapon across the middle routes… I Remember seeing his combine drills before we drafted him and was very impressed! I think he needs to fit into a particular system for his ability to properly shine! Linehan just didn’t utilize him to his stregnth and thats where he’s suffered over his 3 yesr tenure! McMichael should still be our starting TE cause he’s proven (Miami) I wouldn’t take another TE in the draft anywhere higher than the 4th….
I hope that they go after Chase Coffman. He is a beast and will solve alot of our redzone troubles. He will actually be what Drew Bennett was supposed to be. At 6′6″ and 245, he is athletic beyond his size, an excellent pass catcher and he has an advantage over anyone who tries to cover him. He is too athletic to be covered by a backer and too big to be covered by a DB.
