Ex-St. Louis Rams WR Torry Holt: “I can play six more years”
In an interview with the Florida Times-Union, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ newest wide receiver — Torry Holt – acknowledged that his best days are behind him. But Holt also insisted that he has plenty of juice left.
Discussing the “Greatest Show on Turf” years with the Rams, Holt said, “Am I the guy I was back then? Absolutely not. I feel like in a lot of ways I’m a lot better and a lot craftier than I was back then. Back then, I was healthier, obviously. I didn’t have knee surgery. I was younger. I still feel like I am anywhere between 85 and 90 percent of that player.”
Holt’s numbers dipped dramatically last year, to 64 receptions for 796 yards and three touchdowns, as his role was reduced.
“We were not that good offensively,” Holt pointed out. “We fired the coach. Marc Bulger, our starting quarterback, was benched. There was no chemistry, no continuity, period. Everyone struggled. Everyone suffered.”
Holt, who will turn 33 in June, signed a three-year contract with the Jaguars, but he has more grandiose plans. “I can play six more years,” he declared.
The Rams play at Jacksonville on Oct. 18.
All for now . . .

He can only play as long as someone is willing to pay him. I don’t think that will be much longer. Surly not six years.
man i hope doesnt burn the Rams for 150+ this year when they face him. He sounds angry!
Get ready for the swan dive down after the catch….. the mans After Catch Yards are pitiful…. one of the worst in the NFL wideouts.
While his production numbers have dropped, he still has some years left in him. I highly doubt that they are going to be a great 6 years statistically, but I’m sure that he’ll be a great mentor to a young wideout that the Jags might pick up in the first round of this year’s draft. Even though the Jags haven’t been very good at all in selecting a first round WR, Holt is a great option for them this year.
Gee, ‘Evaluator Man’, I went to the stats page at ESPN - they don’t HAVE a column for YAC. However; in Torry’s case - I guess you wouldn’t have that many YAC - considering most of his catches were downfield and quite often in the end zone. Hmmmm…,
I love how these “experts” keep saying that because Torry is older, he has nothing left. It’s all about what system he is put in, and if he is healthy. Isn’t Terrell Owens and Randy Moss older than Torry, yet are still described as elite receivers in the league? No one says that are losing ability with age. Until last year, wasn’t Marvin Harrison one of the top receivers in the league, isn’t he also older? If Torry’s knee is healthy, he is still the man. As an ESPN analyst said, there probably isn’t a better route runner in the NFL - Torry has become what is called “a possession receiver” - so, no, he isn’t going to be running past safeties for 75 yard passes - but he can certainly catch 10 balls a game for 8-20 yards a catch. And those routes aren’t ran because he is slower than he used to be, but because that is where he fits best in an offense. Let the 24 year old receivers run up and down the field.
I’m happy he found a new team and got a good contract. He was a great player for many years, and a tremendous person all the time. I’ll miss the big Torry Holt smile. I wish him nothing but the best, and I don’t understand all the venom directed his way now that he’s gone.
Tim - are you insane? You said “he can certainly catch 10 balls a game” …that’s 160 catches in a season! And you said “for 8-20 yards a catch.” …so you actually think that Torry Holt is going to have between 1280 and 3200 yards of receiving this year? Wow.
to all of the perpetually negative ” FANS ” ,please tell me the name of the Receiver that you think was a better MAN , better Team-player ,better all around guy to have on your team , THAN Torry Holt, over the last ten seasons .?? TEN years, during which the MAN was all we could have asked for. Give the guy his due , no disparaging remarks , and move on, keeping the negative stuff to yourself.
Torry should thank God he had someone like Kurt giving him the ball. Holt would not have close to the numbers he does if he played on any other team. He should also be thanking Martz, Bruce and Faulk.
