Fourth-round pick Dorell Scott should step right into St. Louis Rams d-line rotation
Clemson’s Dorell Scott isn’t exactly the “big fat guy” needed at defensive tackle to shore up the Rams’ porous run defense. But at 6-3, 312 pounds, he’s a fairly close approximation.
Scott was on the Outland Trophy watch entering his senior season, but didn’t play up to expectations in 2008. Slowed by a knee injury for part of the season, Scott did pick up his play over the second half of the season. A three-year starter, Scott is known as a hard worker. Determined to become the first member of his immediate family to earn a college degree, Scott stayed in school this spring instead of dropping out like many prospects do during the time-consuming pre-draft process. He’s scheduled to earn his degree in sociology in the spring.
Interestingly, Scott said almost all of the NFL teams that showed interest in him run 3-4 schemes. The Rams run a 4-3 front under coach Steve Spagnuolo. But Scott played both the nose tackle and “3-technique” positions in college, so he should immediately fit into the Rams’ d-line rotation spelling starters Adam Carriker and Clifton Ryan.

Good for me!
we have now a decent defense with Scott, Fletcher and Laurinaitis!
my only concern now is WR Brooks isn’t the solution
Relax _aleex,… Brooks was never meant to be the solution, but as a supporting role player. We have two good up and coming recievers from last years draft and a potentially very good one we picked up on a trade with Atlanta….As far as name recognition, this was not a very spectacular draft for the Rams. It does however fill, with good solid foundation players, several glaring voids the Rams had. This year’s draft leaves me with a “HUH?” taste in my mouth, so to speak, but that’s not neccessarily a bad thing, since I’ve been pumped up before with past drafts that never panned out…. This new regime knows what they’re doing so let’s let time determine the value of this year’s drafted players before we pop the proverbial balloon. The most important thing is that we have a new beginning with people who seem to have their heads on straight…wake me up when the season begins.

Yeah, it’s good to know that I’m not the only one, who sees potential! Man! I hope I’m not falling for the annual Rams ‘false hopes’ syndrome! You know - the Zygmunt-Shaw ballon busts. You wait for the season - all ready to “beleive” - just to witness …, I’m not even going to say it.
The new owners and their new additions, have me intrigued to say the least. Too many of their moves, have made good football sense. So I’ll reserve judgement on day 2 - although I like every pick - especially after reading their scouting reports. With the FA acquisition of a vet receiver - the WR corps, should be ready for the season. I’m betting Chris Ogbonnaya, makes some noise - Scott will deliver - Null, is an unknown quantity(what’s that guy’s name in Boston? You know, the seventh rounder, with the three super bowl rings?
I can tell you guys from watching four televised Clemson games last fall, Dorell Scott is indeed a hard worker. He never stops hustling. On plays tot he outside and downfield, he out-hustles otehr d-linemen and linebackers. You will love this guy’s attitude and blue-collar work ethic.
After years of disappointment, it is logical that there is a lot of skepticism still expressed regarding the RAMS, but that skepticism, in my mind, is not presently warranted. What I see from the new management of the RAMS is very good judgment in figuring out if a player is actually a contributor, or simply a poser - someone taking the stance of a plyaer, but not delivering the performance of a player.
Under Linehan, Shaw and Zygmunt, we had lots of posers and very few players. I feel that since Devaney took over, the “posers” have thinned out, and the players are coming on stream in constantly increasing quantity. Reports from people who have actually seen the presently nameless additions are running extremely high in positive comment. For example, Unknown QB Mr. Null has been reported as having thrown for an ungodly number of yards the last two seasons, just as in the report above, Dorell Scott (Darell?) is reported to be a very hard worker.
So I am feeling more positive all the time, expecting to see some real effort from “our guys” this coming season. I felt there was some good effort last year, but the coaching situation was SO SCREWED UP that nothing was going to work out. Torry had to be released because he had lost it and was chewing people out on the sidelines, so not much good could be expected. And Pace was rapidly going over the hill. I wish them the best, but think the changes were right.
I LOVED Carriker coming out of college and I hope dearly that entering his 3rd season he takes a nice step forward and becomes an impact player. Part of me thinks he may be better suited as an end but we’ll see what happens under Spags. Hopefully with Scott and Ryan we can clog up the middle a bit and let ‘Nitis and ‘Spoon roam.
