Former Ravens still “best of friends” as Rams teammates

Center Jason Brown created a bit of a stir after signing a free-agent deal with the Rams in late February when he accused quarterback Kyle Boller, a former Baltimore Ravens teammate, of becoming “gun-shy” because he was sacked so many times.

Boller, who since has joined the Rams, also as a free agent, initially was upset at first over the remark. But the two remain “best of friends,” Brown said between Saturday’s two minicamp practices at Rams Park.

“Everybody might have tendencies or some type of flaws in their game; I have flaws in my game,” Brown said. “I live in a glass house. I cannot cast any stones. I really can’t.”

Notes & quotes:

*Mark Setterstrom, coming off a second major knee injury, has been working at center with the second team. Previously, Setterstrom saw virtually all his action at guard.

*FS Oshiomogho Atogwe tweaked a hamstring Friday and was limited to individual drills Saturday.

*Long-snapper Chris Massey is sidelined with a calf injury.

*After having rough day Friday, WR Laurent Robinson caught the ball much better Saturday.

*TE Joe Klopfenstein, a second-round draft choice in 2006, will have to battle for a roster spot. Randy McMichael and Billy Bajema are ahead of him, and Daniel Fells could nail down the third, and final, spot.

*T Jason Smith, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, already has impressed with his strength, quick feet and deference to the vets. “I don’t know who has coached that young man up, but he’s already saying ‘Hey, let me get your shoulder pads,’” Brown said. “As soon as we get in (the locker room), he’s getting us towels and stuff like that. He’s coming along very well.”

*Rookie QB Keith Null has displayed a strong and accurate right arm.

*CB Tye Hill is still limping a bit from the knee injury that ended his season after four games last year.

*Steven Jackson has made a couple of acrobatic catches out of the backfield.

All for now . . .

Steven Jackson is a marked man this coming season.Look for him to stay healthy and become on e of the best if not the best running back this season.

Two comments. First of all, I hate to see that Null displayed a strong and accurate arm. Who would want THOSE qualities in a QB? And I thought all the local blog internet draft “experts” KNEW that he was going to be a “bust” at the sixth pick… Hmmm. I guess it goes to show that an actual PRO SCOUTING DEPARTMENT run by REAL FOOTBALL MEN, might just know a little bit more about what they’re doing than some know-it-all internet dweebs…

Second, say it ain’t so Joe… How could we possibly replace all of Klopfenstein’s production? I have an idea… Each game, let a random fan go out and play his spot. That would be just about right. I think Al Bundy was probably more productive in one game than the Klop has been in his whole career. Truly one of the worst draft picks by the Rams in recent memory…

is it possible that it is a little too soon to be judging his arm from one practice? Just because a local reporter says he showed a strong and accurate arm, doesn’t mean we couldn’t have gotten him after the draft, and it doesn’t mean he will necessarily amount to anything. I hope and am not saying that he might amount to something in the NFL, but I think that little note is not enough to be calling all of the people who disagreed with the pick wrong.

vivaelbeisbol,

Not many Rams Fans were saying it was to early with our draft picks before they started bashing them. Mainly based off the fact our draft picks weren’t names they knew. And they just like you say it’s possible that we could have got him after the draft and it’s also possible that we might wouldn’t be able to get him after the draft. All in all it seems pretty good in Rams camp besides the fact Klopfenstein might not make the team. That’s bad because we wasted a pick on him.

Yea I agree with that.
And I didn’t know Klop was a 2nd rounder until today. With him and Leonard (who has been a bust so far) going in the second, it shows that we are not having very successful drafts. Also the fact that our 1st round draft pick from 2003 (Kennedy) has vanished from the league, our 1st rounder from 2005 (Barron) may not be on the team this time next year unless he starts to produce, and our 1st Rounder from 2006 (Hill) has done little to contribute to the team.

Yes you do Tye Hill… What a waste of a pick. Don’t forget sorry a## Claude Wroten in the 3rd round too. Please let this years picks be ok.
