Hood-to-St. Louis Rams is a rumor — for now, anyway

The rumor that cornerback Roderick Hood is about to join the Rams is just that — a rumor.

For now, anyway.

Coach Steve Spagnuolo acknowledged Thursday that the Rams have interest in Hood, a free agent now after two seasons as a starter with Arizona. “When he was released a couple of weeks ago, there was some conversation,” Spagnuolo said. “At that point, I think Kevin (Demoff, the Rams’ new head of football operations) just gave him the parameters, and I think Rod’s been looking around. It’s just kind of sitting right now.”

Hood’s agent, George Mavrikes, did not return a phone message.

The 5-foot-11, 198-pound Hood, 27, spent his first four years with the Eagles. Spagnuolo was a defensive assistant coach there for three of those seasons.

Notes & quotes:

*Spagnuolo said he and his staff have installed about 70 percent of the schemes on both offense and defense. “We’ll start getting into more situational things as we go through in these OTAs, and it’ll bring out more of the package,” he explained.

*CB Tye Hill continues to impress in coverage drills, and his confidence appears to be growing.

*WR Keenan Burton sat out Thursday’s practice with a sore hamstring. SS Oshiomogho Atogwe and LB Will Witherspoon were excused because of family matters.

*With Burton out, Laurent Robinson joined Donnie Avery with the first-team offense.

*Craig Dahl and David Roach got some work with the No. 1 defense in Atogwe’s absence.

*Quinton Culberson filled in for Witherspoon at weakside LB.

*TE Daniel Fells made a nice, left-handed grab in traffic during team work.

*WR/KR Derek Stanley (knee) remains limited.

*WRs Chad Lucas and Jarrett Byers have shown flashes. Lucas, 6-1 and 201, has a total of five receptions, for 82 yards, over three NFL seasons. Byers, 5-10 and 191, is an undrafted rookie from Northeastern State.

*Another UDFA, Phil Trautwein of Florida, has been working at left tackle with the No. 2 unit. Trautwein is 6-6 and 308.

*OTAs will resume Wednesday.

All for now . . .

They told Hood he wouldn’t be the starter. He didn’t like that. (Team player??)

What happens if Tye Hill turns out not to be a bust….great coaching jim Hasslet. So if Tye Hill looks so good why are we talking to Hood, It would be nice to have a surplus of corners as we all know they tend to get hurt with the horns on the helmet.

I THINK HOOD WOULD BE A GREAT ADDITION TO THE RAMS. HE CAN SHOW OUR CONERBACKS HOW TO TURN THEIR HEADS WHEN THE BALLS IN THE AIR. WE GET SO MANY PENALTIES CAUSE THEY JUS WONT TURN AROUND WHEN THE BALL IS IN THE AIR ITS CRAZY. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE HOOD HE’S NOT OLD AND HE CAME FROM PHILLY THEY KEEP GOOD CORNERBACKS FOR SOME REASON. ANOTHER THING WHY DID THE RAMS WAIT TIL ALL THE GOOD FREE AGENTS WERE GONE TO START LETTING THERE PPL GO FREEEING UP ALL THIS CAP SPACE. WHY DIDNT WE TRADE FOR CUTLER AND WHY SHOULDN’T WE GET VICK. EVERYBODY MAKE MISSTAKES AND DOG FIGHTING ISNT NO DIFFERENT THEN DEER HUNTING.

Vick??? Now that’s pretty dumb. Bring in a circus act that can’t throw accuratly, scrambles too much, and can’t read defenses. He is exciting, but not a leader, and can not win it all. Now Butler would have been a good pick up.

keep it up Spags..things are looking brighter all the time. Wonder what Linehan is thinking…well that assummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmes Linehan can measure and weigh the work Spags has done. Might be too tough.

Why has nobody written about Brooks Foster, the wide receiver we actually drafted?

So “dog fighting isn’t no different than deer hunting.” First off just outstanding grammar. Secondly, watching dogs viciously kill each other is not even close to deer hunting. I guess a slaughter house is just the same as dog fighting as well. I love watching people post ignorant rants on here. Seriously watch some videos of dog fighting and then tell me you don’t feel sick watching it. However, I do feel that he got punished more than other sports figures have for crimes, namely Leonard Little!!!

In case you’re unaware if it; Ram’s Homer, has been deemed and embraced the moniker: “Grammar Nazi” - so HEY, watch it!!

I never felt this good about our team under Linehan. Our players all sound motivated and more ‘in your face’ than they ever did under Scott. Linehan was just too erm… ‘nice’. Spags is a smack mouthed motivator, you can feel the vibe all over Rams Park.

if hood is worth being picked up, arizona probably released him because they have money to spend at other positions. i hear the concern that he might not be a “team” player since he wanted to start and not be backup, but, then again, i’d probably prefer to have gamers on my team if i were spags. from the FO’s perspective, since the jury is still out on whether our run defense will be much improved this year, it might be a better idea to stick to the presumably modest parameter$ that demoff gave hood and save whatever cap room we have left for front seven; however, if hood was sure to be a decent starter or solid nickel, then it might make sense to sweeten the pot since there’s no way to guarantee that a solid run stopper will be available before season begins.

Here is the problem as a nation, we are “dumbing” America down. It started with rap music and then blogs. It is okay to write uneducated in blogs; email and text messages; you “non-grammar” nazi are the people dragging this country into the third world nation status. Show some pride, I am not the best writer. But I try to spell and proof-read my work. Show some pride people!
